Hierarchy
Dominant
The matriarchs (or patriarchs, or atriarchs) of the pod, the leaders whom all others listen to and follow — willingly, it should be noted, for the tides that bind these creatures are ones of choice.
Protector
The strongest, the swiftest, the most skilled. The ones who are first to fight off any dangers to the pod, swimming before even those who might technically be stronger than they are.
Subordinate
Though in no way lesser than their dominant podmates, these the followers, the ones who accept guidance and instruction in exchange for safety and companionship.
Juvenile
Younglings who have yet to determine their place in pod hierarchy.
