Despite his name sounding like a poetic ancient prophecy, Blue is more likely to greet you with a sarcastic remark than a riddle. He is lively in the most exhausting way possible: he speaks with rapid-fire intensity and moves with a restless, twitchy energy that keeps his bioluminescent lights flickering like a malfunctioning neon sign. He doesn't just "swim", but patrols the pod's territory with the vigiliance of one who knows he's going to find trouble somewhere.

This energy of his is fueled, maybe ironically, by a deep-seated disillusionment with survival. Having lived for decades in deep and dangerous waters, Blue has seen all manner of untimely deaths and struggles to survive. He views the cooperative ecosystem of the pod not as a triumph of diplomacy, but as a temporary truce held together by mutual cowardice. That said, while he's quick to share his remarks that it will all fall apart eventually, he also seems very disinclined to leave.

Despite his insistence that every creature is out for themselves, Blue is tethered to his mate Valencien with a fierce, desperate possessiveness. He views her stillness not as apathy, but as a challenge to keep her safe from the "inevitable" disasters he spends his days hunting. She is the only creature he doesn't feel the need to posture against. In her presence, his flickering lights finally find a rhythm that approaches calm. He would sooner choke on an octopus than admit it, but her clinical detachment is the only thing that anchors his manic energy, providing the only point of permanence in a world he is certain is falling apart.
