Appearance: |
Mondriel is a plain woman. She's a little short, with brown skins and pale freckles. Her eyes are a pale hazel colour that stand out with her very pale hair. She's strong from a lifetime of physical labour, though these days as a Queen Rider and a leader of the Nidus, she makes efforts to keep herself looking respected and presentable. She still struggles with her own self-image: her nose is a little too large, her brows are a little too pale, her lips are a little too thin... she has never found her way towards permanently altering any of that, but she has spent time working to build a mask of personality to make up for her own feelings of inadequacy.
Mondriel still feels a need to wear plain clothing, as her position above other riders feels wrong after an entire life spent working fields and living hand-to-mouth. She dresses like an average draconar, and if she's not with Ukubith she could probably be mistaken for a rider working with any position in a formation wing. When she's at formal meetings she will pull out her best, deep burgundy robes over slim pants and soft boots, but this usually serves to make her feel more of an imposter, leaving her stiff and overformal whenever she's dressed so.

Personality: |
Mondriel was confident beyond her years when she worked on her family farm. She was a belle of the village, seemed like she could get whatever she wanted in life. She led her siblings and her friends with great spirits, and had always assumed that she'd settle down with one of the boys she was making eyes over and start up her own family. Then she was Searched for a dragon clutch, and she bluffed her way to success by attracting Starry Ukubith to her side. Things changed drastically for her, and Mondriel had a kind of existential crisis.
She latched on to the Searchrider that found her, a then young, beautiful man named P'ax, and found that going by looks alone was not enough to forge a steady relationship. They broke apart after only a few weeks, and Mondriel was forced to find ways to adapt to being not only a new rider, but the rider of a Queen in training.
She eventually got good at it; her natural predilections towards leadership came out by bits and pieces with Ukubith's encouragement. She was never very high up in the hierarchy at Darkling Dawn, and eventually she found herself looking for something more meaningful. Torn between staying close to her family and home and feeling the tug of the unknown, she eventually discovered she didn't really have a place in a tiny village, with a giant dragon to feed and roles tugging her in different directions.
Mondriel set off with a small group of dragonriders looking to transfer to Nidus Descendi, where she and Ukubith have been working to build up a strong team with the other Queens and their riders. She defers to the more experienced of them for anything to do with territorial conflicts with the nearby Arx, but she knows how to handle necessities like food and access to clean water, and how to do hard work, which has put her in a position of authority for draconars looking to support the humanoid populace spreading out over the surrounding valley.
In the meantime, she's had an on-again-off-again relationship with P'ax, who came with the group from Darkling Dawn, and she's had two children due to treating her dragon's flights in a traditional, Pernese fashion. She cares for her girls, Vassilia and Paula, very deeply, and has fostered them to Nidus Descendi's own small village to learn how to work the land and make their own gaggle of peers.
Mondriel still visits Darkling Dawn from time to time, and she has been trying to uproot some of her siblings to come join her. Between the instability of the Nexus and her fears of losing them to the mists that have been reported swallowing up Weyrs and worlds entire, she is afraid of completely losing touch with her roots.
