Extended Lifespan
Sel's kind live approximately 250 years. They are considered young adults at age 30, and not considered independent until 40.
Description:Tlahsin are unusual creatures, overall quite humanoid but also reminiscent of both insects and reptiles. Sel is slender and long of limb, of which he has three pairs: two two-toed, digitigrade legs; a "greater" set of arms of human proportions, with five long fingers; and a "lesser" set of arms underneath the first, with only four fingers, and roughly half the size of the greater pair. His head is round, at the end of a long neck, and he has a short, nose-less muzzle. His eyes are large, with white irises on black sclera, and long, fleshy antennae sprout from the inner corners of his eyebrow-ridges. He has narrow, pointed ears, and a long, whip-like tail. Tying all of this together is a hide of very small scales similar to shark skin, giving his hide a texture similar to fine-grit sandpaper. The dorsal surfaces of his body are a mossy green, while the ventral ones are closer to lime, with both colors clearly delineated and free of blending.

His attire is the kind preferred by his race: skin-tight, form-fitting outfits very much like wetsuits, favored for freedom of movement. Sel generally dresses in warm browns, giving him an overall foresty look.

Personality:Sel is the quiet one among his friends, gentle and soft-spoken. In fact, he doesn't talk much at all. He is a listener and an observer, a silent plotter among his friends. On those rare moments that he does more than nod or gesture, his friends know to fall silent and listen closely. He is a problem-solver, thinking steadily and carefully through any challenges, so his friends have a sound respect for the member of their group who -- despite being the tallest among them -- is still considered to be "little" Sel.

Like all of them, he is unsettled and distressed by the loss of their home, with a cultural twist: his father raised him alone, with the expectation that Sel's guardianship would be transferred to his mother at age 30 so that his final growth to adulthood would be unfettered by the "trappings of childhood". Tragically, however, Sel's mother was slain when Star City was infested, and Sel turned 30 only a few months after finding sanctuary aboard the Destiny. He now faces the challenge of grasping independence well in advance of having been expected to attain it. He's hardly the first young person in the history of the worlds to have to grow up faster than expected, of course, but that doesn't make it any easier for him.

Biography:Sel and his friends (Araaye, Dorian, Iaveran, Regan) were all born and raised on the space station called Star City, where common circumstances and shared interests bonded them all into a tight, if eclectic, group. Although for a fairly ridiculous reason (moral support for Regan bonding a plant-dragon when her parents told her the only living thing she could bring into the house was a plant), they unanimously decided to stand for dragon-bonding at different places across the Nexus and proceeded to do so. Four of them succeeded before calamity: the infestation of Star City by vast numbers of xenodragons.

They, like many other inhabitants of the City, were evacuated, and it was simple happenstance that they were among the many taken aboard by the Abstract Destiny when it worked in concert with native craft to help save as many as possible. Some families had further places to escape to, other planets or stations where safety could be found, but others were less fortunate and left homeless among the vastness of space. Thankfully, the Destiny had no intentions of forcing out anyone with no place to go, and so they remain aboard the ship as they explore their options -- including the discussions that Doctor Schroeder wishes to see to the founding of a Nidus for them all.
