Chime is innately not comfortable around others. The Sanctum Dream well suits him, what with most of its biomes being shrouded in perpetual night, so it's rare that he has to suffer any discomfort from exposing himself to sunlight. It makes it harder for him to avoid people as well, which as he grew resulted in a dragon who reacts to intrusions upon his space by lashing out: verbally first, physically second. Some of it may be learned from his father's own reclusiveness, but there's a lot that points to it just being his nature. He was jumpy and hesitant around others when he was small, and growing up has merely reaffirmed these tendencies.
He can take care of himself, though, and never complains about having to do so. Sometimes he'll cross paths with his father, who is the only person he won't outright run from, but they're mutually content to just give each other a nod before continuing on their own ways.
