Gavin Vance
"I'm getting less human... but that's just how I am."
Name:Gavin Vance
Age:41 at story start, somewhere in his 50s now
Sex:Male
Species:Human/Xenomorph Hybrid (via DNA reflex)
Height:6'6"
Residence:Nidus Caeligenus
Occupation:Sheriff; formerly Star City Station's Minister of Security
Abilities:
Acid Immunity
Gavin cannot be harmed by acids of any strength.
Acidic Blood
Gavin's blood has turned acidic. It is not as dangerous as true xenomorph blood, but a shed drop still eats a small hole in anything it lands on.
Mindstream Communication
The ability to communicate with any xenomorph/xenodragon in his vicinity.
Psionics
Gavin possesses powerful psionic abilities, a natural but latent talent which was increasingly brought to the fore with each new xenodragon he bonded and further empowered by the DNA Reflex. He can communicate with the hive-mind of his bonds with thoughtless ease, even preferring the wordless flow of emotions to verbal communication. He also possesses the psychic power to mentally dominate his entire hive at once, though he no longer "echoes" at unprotected minds the way he once used to. Finally, though he prefers not to extend his psionics to anyone but his hive, he can get a sense of the minds of those around him, speak telepathically, and strike at other with the strength of his mental presence.
Description: The passage of time -- and more importantly, the effect of xenomorph DNA on his genetics -- has left its mark on Gavin, though he does not look as old as he truly is. Being part xenomorph seems to have acted as something of a preservative on the human course of aging, though the other side effects involved aren't necessarily worth it. Tall, lithe, pale, and deceptively strong, there's an angular sort of handsomeness to the man. His hair is a near-black brown, grown to his shoulders and taken care of but never styled. Once upon a time, his deep red eyes were his most striking feature, but now they're downright tame.

His teeth and toenails have the chrome-looking appearance common to xenodragons and xenomorphs alike, but these are still mild among his changes. Much more drastically, his arms from mid-bicep down are covered with the glossy black hide and armor of a xenomorph, and though he still only has a human's five fingers, four of them have partially merged (pinky to ring finger and middle finger to index). His feet have begun to go a similar process via mutation, shifting his stance slightly digitigrade, and though not yet visible through his clothing, the individual ridges of his vertebrae are growing more distinct, including small bony nubs that are likely the beginning of dorsal spines.

Despite these changes, he still holds to a high standard of dress. His daily wear is a slick suit and tie ensemble, while his casual attire is collared shirts and dress slacks. Just because his body is becoming more and more monstrous doesn't mean his dignity has deteriorated along with it!

Personality: Gavin is a serious, earnest, well-meaning man, regardless of how much or little of him actually remains human. His life now is not what he ever thought it would be and he has lost the home he was willing on multiple occasions to give said life for, but he is alive and, as the poem goes, bloody but unbowed.

Loyal and trustyworthy to his core, Gavin focuses intently on any task presented to him even now. He has been through and survived too much to be rendered aimless by the loss of Star City Station, so though he mourns, his eyes are turned to future horizons. He is the queen of his hive (a term that's become nongendered in his own head, at least) and his authority is unquestioned, while at the same time he loves his myriad bonds and is loved in turn. Even Gavess, his alter-self, feels as natural to him as if he's always been there. Having accepted who he is and what he is capable of he is, perhaps ironically enough, a happier and more amiable person to deal with than he was in times past. At times he can joke more freely and curse a little more fluently, embracing an honest wholeness of emotion. His hive encompasses such a broad gamut of it, after all.

That being said, embracing his xenomorphic aspects has distanced him in degrees from his human ones, and the people skills that onced served him both as a spy and as a Minister have gotten rusty, confounded by the straightforwardness of his hive that he's adapted to. Affections towards people don't come to him as easily as they do towards his bonds and he is, admittedly, a little stupid about recognizing people that care for him.

Biography: Gavin's story is a classic up to a certain point. Born on one of the many versions of Earth that exist throughout the dimensional multiverses, Gavin's family emigrated to the desert planet of Atu when he was very young. In his adulthood, he moved to the orbiting superstructure of Star City Station, where he gained employ with the totalitarian regime of the time. Climbing the ranks of security officers in a steady, respectable fashion, he was eventually deployed as an agent to hunt out insurgents and rebellions against the station rulership. Instead, he succumbed to the inverse effect: he was converted to the rebel cause through sympathy and a good heart alone, and from there became a double-agent working against his employers. In this way, he played his own important role in the sequence of events that led to the ruling dynasty being overthrown, and in the new government that followed, he was elected Minister of Security.

And that… was a long, long time ago now.
