Kaarden Desius is a city state peopled entirely by a kind of digitigrade elven expansionistic race. To maintain order, they have developed a rigorous set of socio-political guiding principles that keep them from warring among one another, even when their naturally hot-headed natures would otherwise cause a breakdown in governance. Prior to the Balespawn War, political intrigue and backstabbing were everyday factors of life. The Aigard can be difficult for all their maneuvering and manipulation.

Each House (Kaarden) stands for a set of principles, and those who hold to those principles organize themselves in a strict pecking order. The order goes like this:

1. Konik: The leader of the House. A Bokonik holds the favour of all Houses, like a President or Prime Minister.
2. Koniket: The executive officer of the Konik. Often the understudy, spouse, sibling or close friend of the Konik. Takes up leadership in the event of the Konik's death.
3. Erganam: Direct family of the Konik and Koniket. Heirs, spouses and immediate family that can step into the role of Koniket or Konik if one or both leaders should fall.
4. Riendam: Nobles. Cousins and more distant family of the Konik and Koniket. These Aigard have blood ties to the leadership but are not likely to ascend to leadership of their entire House. They may hold positions of authority in administration or other seats of power relating to their House's specialty.
5. Steunam: Commoners. Those who ally themselves with a House but have no familial ties with its leadership. One can rise from the position of Steunam to Koniket by marrying into the right family, or by overthrowing the current leadership in an acceptable fashion that gains support of the rest of the House, but usually Steunam are content to work inside the current structure of their House.
6. Vriemlin: Outsiders. Especially humans, but any bipedal, humanoid Nexian falls into this category. Vriemlin are inelligible to hold positions of authority, and though they may live within the structure of society, only their children can apply to become Steunam. Like having a permanent Work Visa without expectation of ever receiving a Permanent Residence.
7. Vrejnu: Second-class citizens who hold monstrous proportions compared to the lithe, elfin Aigard. Vrejnu were previously considered a people specific to the Ford Aigan region, but any Nexus 'furry', anthropomorph, or other snouted person is usually looked down upon by the more xenophobic of the Aigard.
8. Vrendenu: Dragons, specifically Nexus dragons that have settled in the region. Aigard mostly treat them with wary respect and distaste, save for those few who have bonded and understand the importance of mind-paired existence.
