Appearance: |
Kenzou was born 'wrong' according to his parents, and only his father's role as Konik has kept him alive to this day. Still, he is horrifying to his people and has always lived as an open secret, unable to participate with his peers or receive really much of a life like other Aigard children.
He is tall, taller than either of his brothers, reaching nearly 8.5' in height. Granted, some of his is made up by his branching horns, but if one were to line him up with Keshon and Keung, most wouldn't recognize them for relatives, let alone identical triplets. Kenzou's skin is pale, but he is lightly furred and marked with splotches of darker fur over the points of his body, most noticeably over his arms and legs. His hands and digitigrade feet are more powerfully clawed than an average Aigard's, and he sports a relatively short, black-haired tail. Kenzou's black hair is even thicker than his brothers', impossible to keep clean-shaven even if he wanted to. He never-the-less loosely braids his hair back in an effort to make himself more civilized looking, and to corral his long, furred black ears.
Even if he wanted to (and he really rather does) Kenzou would never be given more than scraps of his brothers' finery, and so he usually dresses in undyed furs, linens and leathers-- though he has managed to cobble together a half-laureate from bits he's taken from the woods: black branches and red feathers attached to a pick comb he keeps visible between his ear and one horn. It's a reminder to those who would outright disparage him that he is powerfully connected, and that while his connection might not be openly acknowledged, it can still be drawn upon. It's his single concession to pride in the face of overwhelmingly hostile family.

Personality: |
Kenzou is exceedingly patient and wise, with an excellent ear for gossip and an unassuming pose. He is practiced at looking unthreatening, but he never allows himself to dip towards pathetic or brutish, feeling an inward shame and self-hatred that makes any comment about his less-than, cursed life sting that much worse.
For whatever reason, Kenzou was born vrejnu, or, "monstrous." For all the Aigard have ever known, vrejnu who do their hard labour in the mines and fields, living outside of Kaarden Desius, are a separate kind of people, and rarely do Aigard and vrejnu acknowledge one another, let alone consider joining. Thusly, much shock and horror was felt over Kenzou's birth. If it weren't for the fact that he was born alongside his two brothers, he would instantly have been taken for a bastard of an unholy dalliance, but as it stands, he's an unpalatable mystery that most in his family would prefer left unsolved. He's a cursed creature, only pity keeping him alive when he refused to wither away as a child.
Kenzou rightly has very little love for his family or his people. Nor does he really understand how to make inroads with other vrejnu. Instead, he's played up his status as a person with access to information beyond the ken of most. This started when he was nearly a teen, when he advised his father's servants on a matter he'd been hearing gossip about for days. Though they didn't listen to him then, when his wisdom proved true, some began seeing him in secret for advice.
Seeing his chance to win some respect, Kenzou sheathed his observations in mystery. It wasn't all that long before he began to be seen as a kind of sage, which he happily played up for all he was worth. Now, though he's not openly respected by House or home, he has a small following of devotees. He still has no allies among the vrejnu, who (also rightly) have seen through him and wish to distance themselves from his chicanary.
The problem is that Kenzou has a bitter hole in his heart. He wants desperately to impress his brothers, his father, and his people. He clings to power when he gets it, and he has learned enough from both Keshon and Keung to weave a compelling, beautiful story. He has no desire to lead, but like most Aigard, he possesses in his core a desire for control, and in his experience there is no better way than through devilry and careful and accurate observation.
Therefore, Kenzou has put up with his brother Keshon's condescension and played gratitude for it. He has taken Keung in as an ally and a close friend, though at heart he doesn't trust it to last. He wears a sarcastic, aloof mask to the world and falls into the role of trickster and sage all too easily.
If he could have one wish, it would be to get away to somewhere that he wasn't reviled, to where he could be treated as he wishes and deserves: equal, respected... maybe revered.
