Margaux is as tough in spirit as she is in appearance, but she is at heart an optimist. She was just young when she bonded Taobeth and, though Taobeth is the pragmatist-sometimes-cynic to her sunshine, Margaux and her dragon have ultimately become the stronger for their connection.
In her youth, Margaux lived on Star City station with quite a few cousins and siblings, all of whom shared a relatively cramped lifestyle. Her parents, uncles and aunts worked under the same construction company that had (prior to rebellion) been an offshoot of a caste that had served the station for generations. Even with their relatively new-found freedom, it was a tough transition, and Margaux began work at a young age. She added flourishes to her constructions, however: whenever she could get away with it, she would add her self-made symbol, an Atuan water-daisy, to the building equipment she helped shephard to her family on-site.
Margaux was Searched in that classical Pernese fashion, though not to the same Weyr system that others of the Nexus have lived and experienced. Because quite a few Star City Mutts had flown at Weyr Eriol, they had suggested the station as a viable place to find candidates for their eggs. Margaux was at first extremely reluctant... but during a mandatory tour of one of Weyr Eriol's many rings of eggs, she heard Taobeth in the shell and the pair made an undeniable connection. They were two of the first to bond on hatching day, and from that time, Margaux's life was changed.
She stayed at Weyr Eriol until her training was complete, and she and Taobeth did further tours in their adolescence. Now that the greater Nexus was open to them, and Taobeth not very well equipped to join a mostly-human construction company, instead they made their way in helping Margaux's family source various building materials that were tough to ship by legal means into the station.
Yes, Margaux became a bit of a smuggler. She didn't smuggle drugs or dangerous contraband in the classical sense, but she and Taobeth did bring back quite a few rare minerals, alloys, and biological samples that allowed her family to vault from their previous stature to one that sold to luxury clients. She and her extended family were moderately happy for a time.
Star City was later ransacked by an infestation of xenodragons and, later, of pirates, but Margaux and Taobeth were quick-thinking and able to reverse the direction of their 'smuggling'. They helped quite a few of Margaux's family escape, landing them in various familiar points across the Nexus. Taobeth was also able to ferry quite a few strangers, many of whom now reside in Nidus Descendi.
Though Margaux has settled down somewhat, she and Taobeth still keep tabs on her family, and her family have opted (mostly) to rebuild what they had at the Nidus by providing assistance with the Nidus' construction. There is more than one nidulus with an Atuan water-daisy etched into its counter or beam or bathing suite. There is certainly a large one with pride of place in Margaux's own home, designed around Taobeth's huge couch. Margaux's rooms are huge from what she remembers as a child, but they are modest for a draconar. These days, she helps to watch the children of the Nidus along with those who live mostly in the human-accessible parts of the Nidus, along with her own two children. She is disinterested in a human mate; Margaux's own childhood experiences and her personal inclinations don't pull her strongly towards romance. Taobeth's her closest family, and the extended scatter of her blood relatives are a core part of her day-to-day.
