When he was younger, he worked in banking, and eventually rose to high enough ranks to see the big picture. This has led him to become a skillful negotiator, relying largely on his unassuming looks and gently diplomatic ways. He's only become more proficient as he ages, coming into the mantle of a seasoned elder who only wants to help. Really, that is all he wants to do, but he misses his wealth from his days at Star City.

As a side hobby, Torval still keeps tabs of his stocks and exchanges throughout the Nexus, and occasionally he cashes in on these for himself, for Meroclaisen... and when Meroclaisen strong-arms him into it, for the good of the community, too. He is inadvertantly a huge benefactor of the Nidus for the kinds of things that cannot be hewn directly from the earth or the natural course of the territory.

As Torval grew in finesse, Meroclaisen learned to coordinate with a team of fellow thugs, refining her own techniques in ensuring that the flow of funds and goods remained as they should be, that what people said remained as what they did. She wasn't necessarily enthralled by threats and violence, but she knew from hatching that people tended to be untrustworthy.

Since moving to Nidus Descendi, she's given up on her pastime of trying to find Torval a forever-mate, and has thrown her entire tail into making the community a safe one. She's turned her distrust of people into a distrust of the Arx... but she also keeps a close eye on her compatriots. Her reputation precedes her, so those who work with Meroclaisen stay on the up-and-up.
