Hybelometh is a discerning dragon who loves a good story, and loves good people. He's noble, in a way, but mostly in a way that seeks the best in others, and strikes down those who would do harm and bring down society. With Halueth's influence, he's done a lot of exploring and learning of other cultures, spoken to many dragons, and done a lot of reading of lore and myths. All those contain a seed of truth, after all. This has made him cultured: fine song and art, especially carvings, which he takes up in his spare time, leave him both contented and with time to think on the greater issues in life.
Hybelometh is open-hearted and rules with that, rather than with an iron fist. He stops by to doll praise on Weyrlings (called Paros in the Nidus) regularly, and even keeps watch on enterprising humanoids, as well as of course the lower ranking dragons in the Nidus. This means that he often has an inward focus on the Nidus, rather than a mind for defense and tactics against those who'd threaten it... but he is intelligent and he can volley back with those more strategically minded than himself.
Hybelometh doesn't play with lives, however: if he'd have to sacrifice anyone to see an objective accomplished, he'd rather take half a win and bring as many dragons home as possible. This means that those who are in charge of the Nidus' defenses will sometimes go over his head to get the very dangerous work accomplished, something that Hybelometh would be furious about if he weren't deeply aware that he, too, is new to the Nidus and doesn't automatically call the shots. Still, he argues for diplomacy and peace whenever possible. |
