Appearance: |
Railyd stands a proud 3'4" tall, which is about average for a halfling man. He has a mop of sandy blond hair that he usually keeps tamed under a hat, and heavily freckled pink skin. He's a little on the rounder side, but that's not uncommon for his species, and like many halflings, he has wide, hairy feet that he rarely suffers to put into shoes, even in the coldest weather.
Railyd can rarely be seen without a long, curving pipe in hand, though he keeps it stashed from a loop in his pocket when he needs both of his mitts for hard work. Beneath his layered clothing, Railyd sports a number of scars. Everything from gouges and clawmarks to laser burns and even stab wounds pepper his arms, torso and legs, with only the slightest of nicks to show for it on his face. Railyd is cursed by a very particular form of halfling luck: he never manages to escape in time from the really painful stuff... but almost miraculously, he's able to recover from what he suffers. Despite it all, he's often quirking a half-grin at the world. |
Personality: |
Railyd once worked for a pirate crew operating from a spaceship that snuck between Star City and other ports withing Nexus space. He was one of the few who helped to liberate some of the first eggs from Elessad oh so long ago before he bonded his partner in crime, Heart. At that point, things began to quickly shift for the halfling. He'd never intended to become a bond, let alone a 'host' for a hatchling, and he suddenly realized he needed to take life more seriously. He eventually slipped away at a berth in Star City while it was being overrun with xenodragons, and found himself and Heart helped to 'emigrate' to a new Nidus under false identification.
It was not without complications, however. Railyd did not escape peacefully or without his old mates remembering him for a coward, so when he and Heart began making a life for themselves alone in the mountains near Nidus Descendi, it was to Railyd's utter shock and dismay that he learned first-hand their ill-mannered neighbours in Arx Infusco supported pirate trade.
In short, he was tracked back to his home and nearly strung up, but for Heart's desperate intervention. Though the immediate threat of lackeys attacking was dealt with, the source of his foiled rivals remained. Heart and Railyd moved into the Nidus properly and, though it made Heart anxious, learned to work more closely with other dragons to the point that they both became better integrated.
Railyd is still not entirely comfortable in Nidus Descendi. He's the only full-blooded halfling to live there, just as Heart is the only Elessadian dragon. Their chequered past has not made them many friends, though there are a few that Railyd has grown close enough to call family. He works hard to keep the Nidus safe, now, for if the dragons and humans living here are all in working order, it keeps him and Heart safe, too. |
