Hakkuta wears durable clothing: flannels and denims and other tough weaves. When she can get them, she enjoys vibrant colours, though for an fosters of the Star City Exodus, those are relatively few and far between.

When she was six, the station gave orders to evacuate, and her parents and brothers hurried her to an escape shuttle. They mulled for hours in a large hold, waiting with increased anxiety for instructions on how to escape. Just as they were boarding their own ship, the sounds of fighting and explosions had begun growing louder. Hakkuta's two older brothers, anxious to see, were therefore unwisely at the back of the group of refugees when an explosion breached their hold. Hakkuta remembers the airlock closing immediately with her father barely squeezing through, one hand being shorn behind them in the process, and her brothers nowhere to be seen.

It was traumatising, and the girl grew up somber, a little leery of open spaces. It's not that becoming a dragonrider terrifies her (though it does on some level) -- it's that she doesn't trust wide open spaces not to be incredibly risky.

Since coming to Nidus Descendi, she's spent the bulk of her time with the other fosters and orphans while her parents were elevated unexpectedly to roles in creating new sanitation and recycling systems, exploring the natural caves of the mountain and creating plans with the leadership on how to make the Nidus a safe place to live. The last eleven years, she's seen them sparingly but with fierce love and affection. The rest of her time she's been hand-picked by the Lower Caverns leadership to help get the tight spots cleaned, and has in exchange been given special exogeology classes by the local specialist. Hakkuta grew up around refined materials and metals, so learning about the natural functions of a living earth has become a fascination for her.

Due to this, Kisharath has developed more independence. She can be seen ferrying others around the Nidus, or running messages for Hakkuta and others who work deep in the tunnels and rarely surface. Moreover, Kisharath is has been found asking around for alternative saddle ideas. She very much wants to bring her human with her into the skies, to be free, but she knows that without an all-encompassing carrying method, Hakkuta will never truly trust her.
