As a young squire, he and his new bond were placed at Castle Timara under the tutelage of High Knight Ocusa and her closest friends as a favour to a friend of a friend: neither Flozel or his bond are from Planet Icarus, but they agreed to the vow of silence on their origins when they took up their squirehood. The fresh air and warm climate have done Flozel a world of good, and because he's naturalized to the Castle as though he grew up around the place, he wears as much from his partner's woven and knitted hair as possible. He knows animal husbandry surprisingly well: those who have just about any pet native to Icarus have been known to stop by and get ideas from him for their health and enrichment.

Because Ranalhasi must speak telepathically, he pretends at muteness, a story that others readily buy as a byproduct of his strange and unusual colouration. He works daily with Flozel to help the lad make wise decisions, but becomes anxious if Flozel takes enough initiative to put him in danger. He practices his own trickery very subtley: using telekinesis and magic affinity to support his bond and his friends without appearing to do anything directly... some think him lazy or a little dull-witted, but really, it's all that Ranalhasi can think of to ensure he doesn't break his vow.

One thing that can be said about his character is that Ranalhasi has a fondness for little creatures. He enjoys keeping flit-like things as pets, and enjoys teaching them tricks. This oddity has been remarked upon a number of times, and is one mystery that others suspect they'll never learn the trick of.
