Verdigris dragons are known for being easygoing to a fault, and Zauvoreth fits this generalization well. She's calm and at ease almost to the point of laziness, a child that would rather lie back and watch the dust clouds whirl across the sky than romp off to play. She did not bond when she hatched but imprinted upon her mother as pack, although the fact that Tasalea is not strong leadership material could lead to problems unless she steps up to the role: as mother, as alpha, either or both, as long as it's one of them!

The other thing Zauvoreth does and that could stand to be better moderated is the fact that she is cuttingly honest about everything, seeming not to understand that tact has a place and value in conversations. This could however just be a facet of being a child who has yet not learned the proper time, place, and way to speak her mind.

A Story in Short

← Krishya'yauni

Out in the open skies of Nidus Caeligenus, Ji’mau veered about the rocky spires and metal platforms of the Devil’s Backbone until her eyes managed to fall upon not just one, but three dragons whose hides alternated a medley of copper and green. The native Hathian Tasalea was no true verdigris, herself, but her two children at her side were — and she and her long-distance mate had cultivated something of a lightweight celebrity status for having thrown nothing but verdigris offspring in their multiple clutches. It was through them that the color had gained widespread recognition across the Nexus, after all.

It felt like the most natural thing in the world to let Tasalea know what would be occurring in the near future, though a mirthful smile already pulled at Ji’mau’s beak-corners as she considered the younglings playing under their mother’s watchful gaze. The fluid timelines of the Nexus at large were truly ridiculous.

“Tasalea, hello!” she called, drawing the Hathian’s attention as she fluttered into hovering nearby. In the searing heat of Saxet’s desert sun, Ji’mau’s chromatic flames were just one more splash of radiant heat, barely distinguishable from the far more distant daystar. “Have you heard the news? You’re going to be a grandma!”

The Hathian visibly startled, blue eyes blinking hard behind the protective curls of her silver-sheened horns. Ji’mau watched as the mother looked reflexively towards the two children, who she knew to be named Mosengoth and Zauvoreth. The two of them had hatched from Tasalea’s very first clutch but were still only half-grown, adolescents who had plenty of growing yet to do before they might ever be parents, themselves.

In the next few moments Tasalea recovered, though, perhaps remembering the absurdities of Nexus time, herself. The shock on her face shifted away as she looked back to Ji’mau, head tilted inquisitively.

::I had no idea!:: came the expected admittance. ::Which of my children is expecting?::

Ji’mau couldn’t help but twitter a sweet laugh. “Brace yourself. It’s your Ialeserth.”

And Tasalea jolted once again.

::Ialeserth? But he hatched only months ago!::

“I know, I know! The Nexus is such a strange place that way, isn’t it? But I assure you it’s true, I was there when he took flight!”

(But there was no need to mention she’d specifically been chasing him since she’d lost, Ji’mau decided right there as she spoke. It wasn’t relevant and she didn’t want to surprise Tasalea a third time in succession!)

A mental murmur followed eventually, Tasalea’s expression softening along with it. ::Grandchildren… I’ll have to reach out to Kelustekth and tell them. Maybe we can go together to see…:: Her attention fixed on Ji’mau more solidly again. ::Where will the clutch be?::

“Nidus Aven. I should think you’ll have plenty of time yet to reach out to your mate, though! The egg haven’t even hit the sands yet.”

Tasalea nodded, and now her attention moved to her two present children. ::Zauvoreth, Mosengoth, do you hear that? You’ll have cousins soon.::

Technically nieces and nephews, Ji’mau mused, but ‘cousins’ was probably easier to wrap their heads around — for Tasalea included!

The two tumbling RysHathians froze mid-tangle, attentive to their mother. The darker teal-scaled female immediately took the opportunity to flop bonelessly across the ground, while her brother leapt free and zoomed to his mother’s feet in a blur of bright copper.

::Cousins!?:: he exclaimed, eyes whirling brightly. ::Can they join our pack too??::

::I should hope so. That would be nice, wouldn’t it?::

::Yeah! Make our pack even bigger!:: Mosengoth cheered.

::Maybe we can get someone quiet,:: Zauvoreth yawned, though her mindvoice was tinted with amusement as she rolled onto her back to sun her belly.
