A "flibbertigibbet" is a foolish, flighty woman, and the nickname got applied to Bertie mostly in jest. She does tend to be a little scatterbrained and easily confused, but in truth she is a more intelligent individual than most. Her long-term memory is quite sound, useful for memorizing lists and other forms of organized information. It's just the short-term stuff that gets her a little flustered!
