Vainglory's essence is stated plainly in his name. He is vain: excessively proud of his own qualities and abilities, many of which exist almost entirely in his own imagination. In his mind, he is the most untouchable, influential, and awe-inspiring presence in any room or cavern he occupies, even -- especially -- when no evidence supports the claim. This towering ego is something Vector regularly exploits; there are few tools more effective than a large, venomous dragon who can be steered with flattery alone. Still, there are days when Vector wishes he could wash his claws of the arrangement entirely.
Vainglory expects the best life has to offer: abundant food and drink, luxurious furs to recline upon, and attentive servants to polish his scales and refresh his tray. These servants are human, though Vainglory does not consider them people. To him, they are prized animals: well-trained, aesthetically pleasing, and entirely beneath notice beyond their usefulness. "Pretty", in his standards, has nothing to do with personhood.
When it comes to Antoniath, Vainglory has adopted the young hydra not as a bond or as kin, but as a perfect, adorable accessory. Occupying a place of greater importance than his human pets without being viewed as an equal (or even, properly, a dragon), Vainglory insures that Antoni's every need is seen to as thoroughly as his own -- while expecting absolute obedience and supplication in return.
