After returning to the temple, Rathi eagerly goes to see Vindur. He’s made another friend in the crippled man as the days have gone by, which seems to cause Jerek some irritation, but he has not done anything to stop Rathi from doing so. Arriving in Vindur’s room, he finds Jerek is also there, so the boy eagerly tells them about the dragon he met and the invitation to go someplace to bond, himself.
Vindur picks up the boy’s enthusiasm and is thrilled but Jerek doesn't care, expressing only rather cold relief that the child will finally be leaving. Rathi, who has rather obscurely come to admire the warknight and believes he could be a “good man” again just as Vindur professes, is hurt by the disregard.
