I of the Dragon Stuff

Post by seraaches »

m'kay, i know at least one person on this forum has this game, b/c i remember drooling at the screenshots. . . hehe

well, i got it and. . . i'm having soem problems. @.@; first of all, i can't leave the first area. everytime i try to go to the global map, it reboots my computer. the rebooting also happens if i hit esc too many times.

so, i checked out strategyfirst's website and they have a video patch. well, i tried d/ling that and the game stopped working altogether. ><;;; i could get it to open, and then go to the load screen, but as soon as it tried to load active game play it rebooted.

has anyone else run into this problem? oO;;; any suggestions so i can get past the first area? ^^;;; thankies!

'Epic' is most concisely defined as something that, were you to do it in view of a person in real life, they'd pretty much have to sleep with you immediately to maintain order in the universe.
I sneezed. It seems to have reshaped reality. My bad.

I got it from Strategy First themselves... if you have a decent internet connection you can download it straight from them. I was too impatient to find somewhere that actually had the disks...

In terms of getting it to run, Seraaches, have you updated your video/graphics drivers recently? It could just be that. I'd also advise updating DirectX... last I heard, it's up to like version 9.0c or 9.0d... Those would seem like the most obvious solutions...

And for past the first area, my main bit of advice would be 'Save often'. I kept dying and having to go back to the last autosave. Other than that, just continue as you did for the first area, although make sure you always stay moving while you're in combat. Makes you much harder to hit.

The thread you saw woulda been mine, but I never had the problem you're describing, so I don't have any suggestions. o.o* Hope you can figure out a solution, though!

@Shiolar, lol i figured out the save often simply because my computer kept rebooting and i got tired of redoing that first little video sequence. ^^;;; but thank you for the tip since i might noy have continued the practice if i could get the game to work past the first area. ^^;;;;

well, the CD included dirext x 9.0, right? and i'm pretty sure i already had that because of ff xi. . . <<;;; i'll try and check for video drivers but i guess i'm most concerned that my video card might be too good. . . oo;;; is that possible? you'd think it wouldn't have any problems, ne? but on my gaming comp, where i have it installed, we have. . . egads. . . radeon 9000T? hrms. . . something really pretty because it was the only way ff xi would work. . . ;.; oh, my gaming woes. i may try installing it on kaze and see if for some weird reason it works better on him. . . <<;;;;

thanks to everyone who's posted here thusfar. . . hehe ^^

Well, there's several better versions of DirectX than that, so it might help... I think I'm on 9.0c now. And it shouldn't be your graphics card being too good... coz mine's better. I have a Radeon 9200. I know the game works with the 5.6 version drivers for the Radeon cards. I recently updated those to... 5.10 or something, but I haven't tested the game since I did that. If I remember I'll have a looksie this evening.
