Okay, so we're having a bunch of people over for Halloween. The little kids are going trick or treating, the parents are playing games upstairs, and the teenagers are gonna be playing Dungeons & Dragons in the basement.
I'm supposed to be the DM.
I have a *little* experience, but not much, and I want to do something Halloweeny... anyone got any suggestions for creatures to use, etc? I've been trying to make this hand-swallowing pumpkin creature (it looks like an unlit jack-o-lantern, but when you stick your hand in to light it, it bites down hard) but it's not going well, and I have no plot and... yeah.
Help?
D&D help, anyone?

I'm assuming a low-level game?
Regardless, if it's a one-night game, it doesn't need to be too intricate. How about....the heroes/party/people in your game learn that some children have started going missing on creepy nights, around a certain old house. Investigation leads them into a sort of haunted dungeon or old ruins that this creepy house was built on.
Low-challenge Mimics are fun - they can make themselves appear as anything and attack you. XD
Want anything more specific? ^.^

'Epic' is most concisely defined as something that, were you to do it in view of a person in real life, they'd pretty much have to sleep with you immediately to maintain order in the universe.
I sneezed. It seems to have reshaped reality. My bad.

My suggestion...? Take the Legend of Sleepy Hallow and D&D it up.
Keep in mind if it's for one night, you might want to have ready-made characters for people to use instead of spending the ages-and-ages to make them up before you can start playing.
You could still have them add/roll Some of the stats if you really wanted to. Like maybe roll up the di-stats and let them put the numbers where they wanted them... I.E. You rolled 18, 12, 10, 15, 13, 9... They could put them into the slots (intellect, strength, wisdom, etc.) however they wanted thus saving a bit of time.
Justa thought.

When lost, turn around... You prolly just walked in a circle.
