Horsey Update!
Do you ever just decide to look at something because it interests you and then end up torturing yourself because you can't have it?
I decided to look at horses for sale in the area, something I do from time to time just to see what's out there and torture myself with what I can't afford... Well, today I found a beautiful horse that I simply must have...and of course I can't afford her...wouldn't even be able to afford her board if she were free, but that's besides the point...she's gorgeous and exactly what I would be looking for in a new horse. She's young and has excellent potential...I seriously want to call up the owner even though I have no money...this really sucks! *sigh*
Sorry for the rantiness, I'm just really frustrated because in order to advance my riding career I need to be showing, but my old thoroughbred doesn't show well or even like showing, so I need a new horse that I can show, but I don't have any money after being off work all summer (actually, what I have is a ton of debt from being off work all summer) so I can't afford to buy a horse that would help me to earn more money! *frustrated sigh*
Sorry again, just felt the need to vent...thanks to those of you who bothered to read my rantiness...
Anyone know a way to make tons of money really really quickly? *half-hearted laugh*

I'm already working two jobs...(a total of 57+ hours a week!)...and taking classes in whatever free time I have left...so another job isn't an option...I considered taking out a loan to both pay off my credit cards and buy the horse, but that just delays getting things paid off and I'm not sure I could get a loan anyways...
As for selling art...I don't know...not sure my art is good enough to sell...I'd certainly take commissions if people want my art, but I don't know that anyone would...I'm not super-talented like Dray!
Another problem is that it would take time and money to get to the point where the horse would start helping me make money. She's not show-ready right now so I'd have to take some time training her before I could run off to a show and start gaining notice and business...
By November I'll be making enough to make a reasonable monthly payment on a loan and the horse's board on top of it, but until then things would be really, really tight...*ponders* I wonder if I could get a loan...my parents and my boyfriend would kill me for buying another horse though! *L*

There's always pornography.
*cough* Did I type that out loud?
Seriously if you're a student and have jobs? You'd be able to get a loan. It's stupid-crazy, but that's how the economy works. Yeah, you'd be in debt. ... But...
You never know what the owner of that horse might say if you explained the situation. They might be amenable to something, it might be worth a try!
I came to the realization long, long ago, that I'd rather be broke and *happy* than miserable. You work hard, obviously, for your situation. That's a good thing, it shows you've got what it takes to knuckle down and get a job done.
If you wind up getting the horse, you might sell photos of it, or ... something. Just an idea!

I could certainly draw pictures of her to sell, she's gorgeous!
I'm with you, Shard, broke and happy is much better than rich and miserable! Problem is I have to pick some misery in order to get some happy...*L* I don't know...I'm going to talk to my boyfriend about the loan (he works at a bank) and find out what it would entail...at the very least I may get a loan to pay off my credit cards and reduce my monthly payments considerably...
I did a bunch of calculations and according to those I /CAN/ afford it...but every time I've calculated things in the past my spending has gotten away from me and I end up in debt (like now!)...so I'm just not sure...
Do you know what it feels like to know you need advice but to know that anyone you talk to won't understand your situation well enough to really give you /good/ advice? My mom would just tell me I'm crazy, no matter what the evidence, my boyfriend would probably say the same, my dad wouldn't give me advice, he'd just nod and tell me how much I should appreciate my 'golden handcuffs' *rolls eyes*
I just don't know...another thing to consider is that another horse would be another time consideration...do I even have time/sanity left at the end of the day to work this horse? I want to say yes, but I'm not sure...I don't have much time/sanity to work my own horse, do I want to add another to what little time I have left?
*sigh* I just wish an easy solution would present itself and make my life that much easier! *L*

Lucky. *no job, too sick to hold down 6 hours a week of part time college, and has to save up 5 grand for surgery that insurance company won't pay for before he's able to even think of getting to save for money to move out.*Xalia wrote:I'm already working two jobs...(a total of 57+ hours a week!)...and taking classes in whatever free time I have left...so another job isn't an option...I considered taking out a loan to both pay off my credit cards and buy the horse, but that just delays getting things paid off and I'm not sure I could get a loan anyways...

Just thought I'd let you all know that I figured out how I can afford the horse I was looking at and I've set up a trial on October fifteenth...I'm so excited! I hope she's as awesome as I think she is. The owner says she's pretty green broke but a really willing worker, she actually gets really upset when she's not being worked, but is a really level-headed horse when she's being worked regularly (which she's not right now because both trainer and owner are too busy for her...poor girl).
Yayness! I can't believe I have to wait two weeks to see her though! *dies*

That's really exciting that you can finally afford one! Horses are amazing animals, I would unfortunately never have the time to take care of one
But some of my friends have horses and I love visiting them lol
As for looking at things you can't afford and being all sad afterwards, I definitely know how that goes. There are few words to describe how much I would love a new laptop. I'm not sure what kind, I wanted a powerbook but honestly I've lost a lot of faith in apple since my ipod crapped out, but I want something thin and lightweight that can fit into my backpack easily. It doesn't need to be a supercomputer, but I want it to not crash every five minutes, either. Just something small and cheap to take to school and use for programming stuff. But I can't afford *any* laptop right now so the point is moo (and also moot). Not quite the same as a horse I suppose, but starving college students have unrealistic desires too

*L* I know how that is too...I've wanted a new desktop forever but can't afford one...and I'd much rather take out a loan for a horse than a computer...and no worries, I was once a starving college student too! Huh...college is actually when I got my first horse...but my mom bought him for me so I didn't have to scrimp for that one. Growing up sucks, you know that?

That is just all kinds of awesome, Xalia! I'm really glad you worked it out! She's a lovely horse, too. Very strong looking. No wonder she wants to be doing something!

I can understand that, Kesava...horses a SO expensive. I'm actually really lucky because I live in an area where horse board really isn't that bad. So Cal is a really good place to have horses because our weather never gets bad enough that all the horses have to be in the barn, and we never have to pay to heat the barn or anything like that. Board in the pipe corrals is only $175/month and the barn is only $265 (I get a discount 'cause I'm a trainer though so I only pay $240...
) which is a huge difference from the $320/month I was paying 7 years ago in Ohio! And the stalls are like 20x20 and the barn stalls all have a turnout, whereas in Ohio it was just a tiny 10x10 box stall!
Sorry, don't mean to brag, I just love the barn/stable/ranch I'm at right now...been riding/boarding there for *counts* 15 years so I'm just a little attached! *L*
But even so, my big old Thoroughbred costs me a fortune in extra expenses...shoes, extra feed and supplements to keep him at a healthy weight and sound enough to be worked...bleck...hopefully starting with a young horse I can avoid some of that stuff!

I know, she looks really well muscled for her age! And I can see intelligence in those eyes too...she's pretty green so that head frame is probably a new thing for her, you can just see her thinking it over, can't you?
Another reason she'd want to be out, the really intelligent ones want to be out more because it's mentally stimulating than anything else. They enjoy answering the questions given to them by the rider, because that's all dressage really is, asking questions and getting answers...even if the answer is "I don't know!" *L*
*is getting very giddy about this* The next two weeks are going to be agony waiting to go try her out!

She's a Warmblood...her mother is actually a Thoroughbred, but her father's a Dutch Warmblood...which technically makes her a Warmblood too...
Yeah, Warmbloods are much bulkier than the trim racehorses (Thoroughbreds) and the lightweight Arabs... But they're usually very good at dressage and very hard workers...

Well, I got denied for the loan I applied for. So now I have no idea what to do. I'm still supposed to go check out the horse on the 15th but unless I can come up with another option in the next week and a half I'll have no way of purchasing her if I decide I love her.
This just sucks...I picked up a new horse to train so I have more than enough money to pay for her now but I can't get the loan I need in order to do it.
Sorry, not really sure why I'm posting this except I'm really upset and no one I've talked to about it has had anything helpful to say so far...
I don't know what to do next...

Aww man!
Just for shits and giggles? How much is the loan you're asking for? If you don't wanna say don't bother, but I'm curious what working 2 jobs would be *denied*.

I got denied because I have two late payments in the last three months...both because my boyfriend was supposed to be helping me out this summer and didn't (he'll be writing me a large check this evening, but that doesn't undo the damage to my credit)
It would also be my first loan ever (I didn't have and student loan debt when I got my first degree because my dad paid for everything) so that of course counts against me (that's so stupid...in order to get a loan you have to have had one before but how can you get one if no one will give you one unless you have one?)
I was applying for a rather large amount so that I could both buy the horse and consolidate my bills in one large swoop...I don't know if they'd feel any different if I just applied for the cost of the horse or not.
Right now I'm looking into lines of credit instead of loans...they're apparently easier to get and have lower monthly payments...I just want to talk to my boyfriend before I jump into it...he knows how they figure out interest rates for that sort of thing so hopefully he can help me out.
I've also considered asking my mom to cosign...but she doesn't think I should be looking at a horse because "there will be other horses" and she thinks I'm financially unstable...part of me trying to get a loan though is so I can stabilize my finances...*sigh* We'll see...I'm not giving up yet...keep your fingers crossed for me!
