Commissions?

Post by Dray »

I've been paying for supplies... and after many budgeting hair-pulling-outings, I'm beginning to realize that I have no money left over for food, which really, really sucks.

So, what I'm wondering is if anyone would be interested in some commissions? I'm thinking $5 for a sketch, $10 for an inked image, and $25 for a fully coloured image. Add an extra $1 for shipping ($2 for the full colour, since I have to print off a copy, as I'll be doing it in photoshop), kind of like what various artists on LJ are doing with there speed-sketches. Images'll be on 8.5x11 paper, Glossy or matte for the full-colour (again, because printing is required.)

My food budget is about $1.10 per meal right now, and the stupid floor-managers held a meeting with 'cheap' $1 slices of pizza. It was the most... rar, "I want to cry but I can't because the stupid rich party kids sitting all around me will laugh," moment. I hate this feeling of not being able to afford things that everyone else would take for granted... so yeah. A sketch'll get me a little over a day's-worth of food, a full-coloured image will help for, what, a little over a week?

Anyways, anything helps, really! And you'll be getting Terry-arts, oooooh!

If anyone's interested in helping, please leave a comment! I'm going to set up a paypal account and everything, if that's the only means possible to transfer money!

Examples below!

Sketch:

Probably something a little less detailed then this, but otherwise about that quality (also cleaner lines... my scanner sucks. XD)

Ink:

Brush-pen inking (Choice of black or blule ink) or

Regular Staedtler ink-job (Minus the graphite in the background there, obviously!)

Full Colour:

I'm open to human, anthro and dragon art, if you have a dragon/rider pair you're looking to have drawn, I can do 'em!

I think that's all... anyhow, thanks so much for looking, and... yeah, if you'd like a commission, please drop me a note! Thank you so, so much for your help! :3

You tempt me ... I'm in the same place you are about with the whole starving student thing but lemme check my financial situation and if I have enough I will be ordering from you. Elano's and I are having our first year annivery coming up, and I'm pulling my hair out deciding what to get him. A drawing of our characters together would be uber cute ... but like I said, starving college student, so we shall see when my next paycheck arrives. Good luck with this! :)

Yes. :)

I'd actually love to have you do a couple Zekiran illos, we can work out a price I think. Right now, there are only 3 different people's illustrations in my book, Mine, Fuzzy's few and one by Indigo who I don't even know if she's here, the ferilon owner's picture... So yeah I need some work. lol!

I think I paid CD 50? I can't recall off the top of my head, but that's definitely what I'd be happy to pay you, for whatever level of things - probably not color for this, since they'd be interior - sketch or ink. I'll look over what I need, mmkay?

Oooooh shiny *_*

I'd love to do this.. hmm.. but what to commission? I don't really have any stable characters beyond, like, my persona >_>;

I don't suppose I could commission you to draw an Enkeyn, could I? XD And do you accept PayPal, or just money orders and the like?

@Astra: :3 If you want a pencil-sketch-type thing, I can certainly do that for you, and it's only abt $5, vs. some artist's who are charging anywhere from $10 to, what, lotsandlots? XD Thank you so much for looking around, but if you're in a bind, then I don't want to be stealing money from you! :O
Thanks for the support, though. *hugs* I appreciate it.

@Shard: My email's dracothrope at yahoo.com if you want to give me a shout with subject matter. If you want pen-work it's about $10 an image, though I'm no expert with backgrounds so... yeah. XD Just to warn you!

@Rachael: I have a paypal account, but I'll just as gladly accept cheque or M.O., or well-hidden cash!

@Skysong: I certainly could do an Enkeyn--email me at dracothrope at yahoo.com with specific details! I accept paypal, yep, just read the bolded bit above for more info!

Yay for not being a poor starvling at the moment - I'll gladly ask for something from you, Dray, long as you don't mind money orders *grin, is too young for credit cards yet, though she's turning 18 soonish* Hey, I have money to burn and want pretty wall art of doom *eyes white walls, mutters*

Would you want reference pictures or just very detailed descriptions? Some of my charas have pictures, but most are just descriptions at the moment..

Oh yeah, another question - are these prices US or Canadian dollars?

*really hoping Canadian, then she can send hidden cash* XD

@Starfyre: Money orders are okay... going to have to walk down to the bank to cash 'em and wait for them to process 'em, but I'm pretty sure they work.
As for details: throw me everything you can, written and ref-image wise, so I don't mess up! XD I like having lots to work from!

@Skysong: Prices are Canadian, since that's where I hail from! XD I should probably be evil and charge US prices, but that feels... too evil? :\ I dunno.

And... I'm thinking of amending the full-colour image to include a +$5 for full backgrounds, since I suck at them and they take absolutely forever... and I don't want to hold people up! I'm taking cash upfront, so I'll start working on those that have paid before I go to those that haven't paid.

Pft on your Canadian monetary system, Dray *grins* What's the difference? I'm a clueless midwesterner in the middle of nowhere that thinks U.S. dollars are practically holy (not really ^^;; but I don't keep up with the differences between the U.S. dollar and any place else, cause I'm rather stuck here at the moment =P) And I'm wondering whether Canadian banks will charge a fee to cash US money orders, some places do, I've heard (but that applies to overseas, so I'm not sure 0.o;; as stated, clueless.)

O_o I'm really not sure if they charge fees to exchange money! I haven't had to before, so I never checked.

As for US to Canadian currency conversions, I think that 1 US dollar is about .85 Canadian? So... XD that'd mean a sketch would be $4.25 for americans, an inked would be about $7.23, and a full colour would be from $21.25 to $25.50! :O Damn, I'm getting cheated. XDD

So.. uh... I'll still take US cash if you want to send it... it'll just mean that I'll get more moneys. Which will make me happy. XD

Also, I'm keeping a list on LJ of potential commissioners, it can be found here:

http://www.livejournal.com/users/dracot ... mode=reply

If you want off the list, please let me know, otherwise, that's all the info I have! Feel free to email me or leave a comment to let me know more details, so I can get started! ^_^

I know my bank doesn't charge a conversion fee for US cash or money orders (is a Canadian too, in Vancouver) - I think it really depends on the bank. And getting US cash is good cause you can hold onto it til the Canadian dollar's suffering XD Although I think it's been looking pretty good lately, haven't been paying attention..

*does most of her commission stuffs in US dollars* ^_^;

*laughs* And the Dray should be kept happy. *smiles* Go check and see if they charge a fee if you get sent a money order in US dollars, just to make sure? It'll be a bit until I have hold of enough again to commission what I'd like to, since I just spent a lot of my money on fabric to make stuffed animals with, but it'll be decently soon.

I'd be interested in a couple of pieces. I need to think about exactly what I want, but I'll get back to you. I'd use PayPal, as I already deal with them

Just wondering, for people who're more coherent with Paypal then I, how's that Premiere account work? I just recieved a credit-card payment, and it says that I have to upgrade... but then it wants to take 2.9% + $0.55 per money-recieval... O_o Whereas it's free with a personal account! I'm confused and wondering if they're trying to jip me!

@Skysong: Which bank do you deal with? I'm wondering if maybe larger banks don't worry so much about it... but I'm with a provincial bank, so I'm not sure!

@Starfyre: Alright, I'll give me bank a phone call at some point tomorrow, as it's way too late tonight (and I've forgotten their toll free number! >.O!) But I'll get back to you on that as soon as I can! I think I'll be okay for a little while, so if you need to take time to get some money together, that's alright.

@Jess: :3 Alright, as soon as you decide what you'd like, please email me at dracothrope at yahoo.com and let me know! ^_^'

:\ *still nervous about upgrading to Premiere, even though it seems like the only way she can accept a payment* Eep!

Bloody bother >.< I keep forgetting that my debit card acts like a credit card (a good thing, usually).

Perhaps the percentage is just for credit card payments only...

I think it is just for debit and credit cards. "Paypal money" is free to transfer. X3 I got your money, Myrror, and I'll be working on your image as soon as I get Rachael's first one finished! :3

I can probably do paypal but I need to move some money into the account first, since I like having some there for spending online. i wonder if they change the money values based on where you are? Since mine would be 50$ usa, would you be getting like, 58.50 or whatever canadian? or .. just fifty...

I'll scare up my info and email you, looks like you're already working!

I'm a little strapped for cash right now too, but I will definitely be commissioning you for something (haven't decided what yet) when my cash flow increases...I get my first ucky-job paycheck next month and I just picked up a new horse to train so I should be in better shape by Christmas...Yay, Dray-artness! :D

@Shard: I'm really not sure how paypal converts money, but since my main currency is Canadian dollars, I'm thinking that it may convert it as it gets sent? Or, I believe that paypal does a money-conversion process, but I think that they charge a fee for it. :\ Really not sure!
I'm getting to work, yep, but I'll get to yours just as soon as I get some of the two I'm starting worked on/finished! X3 Shouldn't take /too/ long, I'm hoping... though it's full colour, so maybe a couple of weeks? (XP Homework evils!)

@Myrror: XD No, drawing with my hands winched up behind me would make things difficult, and abstract-looking, to say the least! X33

@Xalia: S'okay, take your time! :3 I'll add you to my list and poke you if I get everyone else finished, if you haven't thought something up already and poked me first! ^_^' I probably would take a little while to get yours finished already, were you to send info/money's immediately, since I've got a couple commishes in the queue! :3 But yep, would be more then happy to draw something for you when you're getting some more comfortable cheques. XD

I'm already formulating what I want you to do...I just can't pay you yet (stupid real life, requiring me to pay for everything I /need/ so I can't afford anything I /want/ *L*)...so yeah, poke me when you run out of things to do and we'll see where I stand...

Starfyre, I phoned my bank up and asked them about exchange rates and MO processing fees!

Apparently there's no fees for cashing Money Orders, though if I try to via an ABM, it'll take 3 or so days to process! The exchange rate for non-cash between Canada and the US is currently $1:$1.16, so... yeah. X3 There's between a .15 and .16 cent difference on each dollar. I suck at math, though. :O

@Xalia: Will do! :3

@Asha: XD You've got plenty of time to earn monies, I wouldn't worry about it!

Best currency converter ever X3

http://www.xe.com/ucc/

Oh yeah, and I'm with Royal Bank, but they suck and I'm probably going to switch over to TD soon >_>

And you're lucky it only takes 3 days for a money order.. it takes a month for me! Bleh.

O_o Seriously? I talked to my bank over the phone and they said that if you go up to the tellers, they'll process it right there for ya! o.o I guess that's the joy of being with a provincial bank... they're less paranoid?

Well, the first thing they tell me is that they have to hold onto it for a month, but I can usually convince them to give it to me right away after pointing out a) that I've had my account for 13 years, and b) I've been depositing money orders for years without any problems XD

I hate my bank, though. Just cause you're not a bajillionare doesn't mean that you're not entitled to polite service >_>;
