The Vayamir are born as vampires, not made, and so grow up very fast (approximately a year) to their full size, after which they cease aging. They live solely off of blood, and the older they are, the less they have to consume. Young Vayamir need to feed at least once a night (twice to three times a night during their year of growth), while the eldest Vayamir only need to feed about once a week (unless they've been exerting themselves).
The sun is their dreaded enemy, though it doesn't instantly kill an elder Vayamir. Vayamir under one year of age will die if exposed to full sunlight (not sunrise or sunset) for more than a minute or two, Vayamir between one and one hundred years of age will die after about a half hour of fairly extreme pain, Vayamir between one hundred and five hundred can withstand about an hour, and only start feeling pain after a half hour, Vayamir older than five hundred can withstand three to four hours, and only start to feel pain after the second hour. No Vayamir, no matter how old, can walk under the noon sun. This, of course, does not include Vayamir that have the Cloak of Darkness ability.
This does not mean that Vayamir must be asleep during the day (they don't "die" every morning like traditional vampires), but because of their limitations, many do take to sleeping out much of the day.
Vayamir abilities:
Telepathy: strong enough to give them Hypnosis/Control as a free action (meaning, they can speak telepathically without using it, speak telepathically and use it, or use it without speaking first)
Functional Immortality: will not age past a certain point, but can be killed
Teleportation: limited, must have been to the place before, and the longer the distance, the more tiring the transfer. Transferring between worlds is almost impossible unless the Vayamir has purposely forced their endurance
ShapeShifting: True Bat – the ability to take on the form of a bat. Extra heads, tails, and wings will not transfer. The only way to tell a bat-formed Vayamir from a true bit is the eyes, which remain the same color as the Vayamir’s true form.
See Invisible – the ability to see creatures, beings, or things that are otherwise invisible to normal beings. Examples of which include: ghosts, beings with the ability to turn invisible, etc.
Blood Vision - The ability to see the ebb and flow of blood through a creature’s body. Blood “glows” to the Vayamir, meaning that even in true darkness they can see the blood.
Fast Healing- the ability to heal wounds faster than normal. Missing limbs can be healed so long as the Vayamir is willing to spend days recovering and sleeping after spending a whole night and day focusing their power upon just the missing limb. Also, the limbs must be focused upon to heal before the initial wound heals naturally.
After those abilities, all Vayamir have at least two others.
Alter Physical Structure: Mist – the ability to change the physical structure of the Vayamir’s body into a cloud of mist that can go anywhere the wind may go. They can move anywhere by will alone.
Magic: Blood -- the ability to control blood and use it to create any item the Vayamir desires
Magic: Shadow -- the ability to control shadows, which can then be used as spies, attackers, defenders, or to transport the Vayamir from one shadow to another. This can also, to a limited extent, be used to keep the Vayamir from harm during the day, but the concentration required to keep the shadows around the Vayamir rises exponentially with every ten minutes spent out in the sun.
Magic: Moon -- the ability to control moonlight, either brightening or darkening an area. This is also capable of being used to affect moon-phase-dependant creatures such as werewolves
Magic: Void -- the ability to tap into the nothingness that is the void and use the "negative energy" to do harm to others and negate magical attacks.
Turn Invisible -- the ability to turn invisible. This does not save the Vayamir from the effects of sunlight, as this is more the ability to turn transparent than the ability to bend light away
Spider-Climb -- the ability to climb and cling to walls, ceilings, and other such obstacles
Cloak of Darkness -- the ability to walk under the sun (even the midday sun) without harm. This appears as a shroud of darkness that enwraps the Vayamir whenever the ability is activated, and only those with very good night vision (or some other similar ability) can see into the shroud to see what the Vayamir looks like. It's important to note that this ability can be activated at any time, even at night, and so can be used for disguise as well as protection
