Would anyone be interested in a clutch/series of clutches based around the idea of building a xenodragon hive?
The way I was thinking it would work would be something like:
0. It would be a bit like the Wyld Whorls or the recent BWR xeno-clutch, where there's no individual big hatching but there are always eggs available 'cause queenie keeps popping them out, but the sire varies from xeno to xeno.
1. You apply for an xeno 'freebie'*
2. I give you an image
3. Either you write a story for the dragon you get or don't -- this defines what happens next
4. You apply for another dragon
5. I give you another based on what you did for the last -- so this could either be like Myrror's giveaway where you get a series of xenodragons for free basically, but they'd all be low rankers/drones, or you can work your way up the ranks from drone, to warrior, to royal guard, to (for the best of the best) junior queen and then separate hive-queen.
The catch would be that Rutuluss, being the xenodragon queen that I'd use, is wanting to build her hive so she'd be looking to keep a good proportion of her offspring in the hive, say 75% or 80%. So having the possibility for the xeno you get leave the hive* would be a one in four or one in five chance, and it's the kind of thing you'd have to earn.
The thing is I'd make sure there was a well-developed setting around this so people can feel able to write stories, and I'd make myself available for questions and maybe even plot ideas. This would also be encouraging people to work together, like get their couple of drones on one particular plot and earn both of them higher rankers. I'd also love eventually to come up with a hive meta-plot, some big event that everyone can write their own take on. Building the Hive would be a pretty interactive process, I wouldn't leave you all on your own!
I'd even be willing to make a 'stock' layout for people to use; like, here's the code, now take it and all you have to do is input your individual information and upload! :D
*With or without an attached character. A few humanoid or draconic bonds would be welcome to stay at the hive, were they attached to one of Rutulus's hivelings... or the character could even be a host for a burster baby, which might grant the resulting xeno certain...traits. >D
**'leave the hive FOR GOOD', I imagine Rutulus would be totally cool with drones or warriors making info-gathering or even leisure trips to the outside world, so long as her precious hivelings return eventually!

Would it be something that was timed? Like, you have to have a certain part of the story up before a certain time, or mostly at your own pace?
Also, would you be able to stop applying for the next step whenever you wanted? Like, if you got up a rank or two and just wanted to stay there, you could?

:3 There would be a time limit for getting your image up, ie the image is due up in a week or something. But as for stories, write them when you want! You just won't get any higher rankers until you write more.
If you want to get up to a level and then stop, yep, that's an option! You just let me know and I won't bump you any higher. :) I think once you get up to Warrior rank, however, you still won't get warriors as 'freebies', because then the hive would be overrun by warriors! You'll still have to write a little something for each warrior you get...

I like that last idea. :) We ask for a freebie, get a low-ranked drone. Write a story-bit with our drone, get a higher-ranking-drone. Write another story, get the highest-rank drone. Etc... and then if we're out of writing-steam but still want to page, we can ask for freebies and possibly get another warrior, if we're lucky!
How about we only get new guys when our first image is paged?
How many templates are you planning on making?
Can we take our xenos off to bond somewhere else if we want, so long as they come back to the hive?
Will you be setting up some of your current hive-members as possible story-plottage? (Like, say, your pink warrior is on the lookout for drones to beat, etc?)

I think that'll be the catch -- you can only get another once you've got your last one up. That way I can keep my records clean... and I hope to have a massive records page. >D

In that aspect, this project will be a little like an agency (many templates over a long-term period of time) but most, if not all, templates will remain available to earn indefinitely. I guess in some ways this will be a bit like an Old World weyr where queens really DO mean you've done something astoundingly awesome... but I hope ot have it much better than Pern because even each drone will be made individually. >D

Definitely will have some of the current hivelings for people to use NPC style. :3 Like back in the day when Search Riders for weyrs were posted, I'll have little profiles for hivelings that might come in handy in story-use. :D

Yeah, the stay with the hive would throw me off too. I'm not comfortable, for the most part, with trying to operate in other people's settings. ^^; I have enough problems with my *own*. XD
