Cave dragons? [with gloooowiiieees]
I was sitting around in summerschool, contemplating the subject of glowies, which is my recent draconic obsession. (Xhoren. December. All the places i'm sending xhoren and december because they = teh glowies awesome), and i was thinking.. man, there should be a breed with glowies.
forgive me if there is one, in which case, i'll ill this idea. but i started doodling, and thus came to exist the mindspace cave dragons, whose picture i'm scanning. (my computer is being a bitch about it)
They're blind and mute, but have excellent senses of smell and hearing. and they have glowies. what's not to love.
glowies, tracing xhoren's fammy history, came off of a dragon by myr, i think? so myr, if you dislike this idea, i apologise and will kill it.
whee.
I'll be uploading the picture in a moment, and, if myrror or anyone else has no objections, and people like what they see, i'll start working on it after my nap and open a clutch of these guys for candidates at BSW or something. I'm going to cali in two days, but i'll put up all the info i can and people can send me candidates while i'm away, and for a few weeks after. ._.
i've got species info and everything worked out already. The circles you'll see in the picture are meant to be glowies, but i may add some gems or something, becuase they do have affinities for gemstones. ._. <3 yay

To attract small, cavedwelling animals that make up their diets. That's my main theory (was thinking of it in class~), but otherwise, just for the hell of it. >.> The glowies would probably impeed things for them if they COULD see, i think. :/ or maybe i'm thinking of a different trait for a different animal, in that one.
Thanks, though. <3
Thanks, though. <3

..... they and the shroom dragons should-- .... should...

They and the shroomies should all get together and have a party, in which everyone ingests some of the hallucinigenic shroomies (yay for confusing words when tired) and then stares at these guys moving for an hour~~ that would make my day.
and yep, caco~ ^^ I was thinking of inking that image up there, if i ever got the mental determination to fix that retarded looking back leg. X.x Inking is the bane of my existance, but i shall do it~
Squee~ I'm gonna nap, i think, and afterwards, if people still like this, I shall put up information on a clutch of these babies and start accepting candidates. The hatching would be well after california, but hey, more time to make candidates. ^^

Eee! *glomps* So cute! I've actually been contemplating requesting a glowy from the Exchange soon. I have a glow in the dark newt that sits on top of the main computer. He's been with me for years and I think he's just adorable. I'd love a glowy dragon!

Here's species info:
Species Name: [someone suggest something?]
Origin [location]: Mindspace
Origin [Creation/Evolution]: Natural Evolution
Natural Lifestyle: Typically live in caves and underground complexes that they help dig. Big on tunneling. They live far underground most of the time, and have evolved the glows in order to lure small animals to them, for food. It works, when deep underground. They do venture outside, though, at differing times with each individual-- some are out side most of the time (Rare), and some rarely ever go outside the caves in their lives. it goes without saying, but bonded ones venture outside more often. As they are blind, they have little concept of time, and don't really care if it's night or day-- so they aren't noctournal, as one might expect. They typically live solitarily, though they enjoy company and territories often overlap-- they completely ignore members of their own breed half the time, and the other half is friendly, for the most part-- not territory disputes, unless there's a shortage of food or something to that end.
Intelligence: High, higehr or as high as human.
Language: they have no spoken language. They can be taught a language, but they tend to frown on language as a whole and, if taught, will likely communicate in short word strings like, "want food." Their preffered method of communication is much simpler and more intimate-- these creatures are very strong natural empaths, and communicate telepathically by sending each other ideas, thoughts, images and deeper meanings to said thoughts. They also do this with other species without meaning to, when "talking" to them, and as a result seem to understand most languages, even if they do not. note-- not mute, but don't usually make sound unless singing. Those that live amongst creatures that make noise will take up that ability, but use it very rarely, and only a little more than their wild cousins.
Natural Abilities: Empathy, Telepathy, weak telekinesis, strength much higher than one would expect to them. All have some form of earth magic, but the strength of that varries. Some have teleportation. All can switch size to varying degree, to get into those hard-to-reach places, and some can gender shift-- even fewer can do total shape shifts to whatever degree. All have an affinity for gems and metal, and can see them out fairly easily underground. All are blind, but have an exceptional sense of hearing and smell. Most also have varying degrees to control things through little "songs".
Magic? Yes, if they choose to learn it. It's almost always practical magic, though, because they tend to be practical individuals.
Naming Conventions: They recognise each other by scents, and therefore do not reffer to each other by name. It's a habit they may pick up while living with people, but as it stands, none.
Rank System: None
Bonding prefs: Any number of bonds, and may bond or not bond. Can bond anywhere from the age of 1month,and for the rest of their life. don't mind living in a large group of bonds, or with a sponsor, to whom they will be inordinately affectionate. Regardless of bonding condition, they need to be left alone soemtimes and given their space.
Natural Group Structure: Solitary, except for mating season, or for those who take lifemates. Solitary doesn't nessiecarily mean one to a territory-- territories often overlap, and these creatures are fairly sociable, so they tend to visit one another. However, they do ignore the other occupants of their defined territory most of the time-- hense solitary. They may actively notice, as it were, a mate long enough to have children and raise them for the standard month or so. Some take lifelong mates, though it isn't mandatory, and is mostly confined to the older members of this race.
Birth/Early life: Liveborn. Depending on the size of the mother, litters consist of anywhere from 3-22 kits. At birth, they are helpless, and raised/cared for by both parents for a month. At the age of a month, they've grown enough to start exploring. At this point, if they live near a good number of potential bonders, and the parents have had good experiences with said bonders, the parents may invite people to come and see the litter, allowing any who choose to go off with their bonds or sponsors. The kits do not actually leave their parents until they are 2-3 months old-- excepting those who leave with bond or sponsor-- at which point they can fend for themselves and do the rest of their growing on their own.
Mating: Females go into heat anywhere from 2-6 times a year, usually on the lesser end of that spectrum. Typically, nearby males (and the occasional interested female) preform for the females-- usually in singing, seeing as how they're blind and all-- and the female chooses after everyone is done. They may mate in any other way, however, and flights are not uncommon to those who spend a good deal of time outdoors.
Physical Traits/Structure: See image. Blind, mute, but exceptional other senses. Glowies to attract food, and for the hell of it. Anywhere from 3' to 20' on the shoulder when on all fours, though the average is usually between 5-11' at the shoulder.
Other notes:
And i'll put the clutch information up as soon as i get home from a quick trip to the store.

Well, technically, the random form is always open, since I need a certain amount to send them all out (otherwise a person might get the same outline, which I don't want--not that it's a bad thing, but I'd like to stread the outlines out as much as possible. Or something)
Though right now, I'm not drawing much. Recupperating from seven days of #(*%^*(, and ...well, that. Next week, I should be back on track. ^.^

...oh wow, caco, you caught me.
XP good point. I totally missed that.
i designed these guys kinda different in class (they weren't mute), and redid them a bit at home, and apparently, i didn't smooth the cracks out as well as i thought i had.
XP thanks for catching that.
scratch the singing bit~
and whee, thanks, myr.
i might just request some glowies.. or a kirin.. or a glowy kirin~

When i first drew them, they didn't have wings~ that's why the wings on the sketch are so dark and malformed and whatnot, becuase i added them on later. But yeah. IC... there is no reason. I added them after sketching because, without wings, they aren't able to AS EASILY mingle with the other dragons of nexus, and i do kinda want them to breed. >.> i like glowies. a lot. glowies are made of awesome.
but yeah. <.< no reason. They do venture outside sometimes, which is my [very weak] ic reason.

-wriggles- but now i liiiike the wings~ though i'll leave them out if they get annoying durring inking. which i am procrastinating on. -stares at picture with distaste- i hate inking.
but squee! I do recognise those jelly tails and gemmies. <3 squee!
I should prolly do a giveaway of these guys, too... to get some extra genes out there, for the glowies~ or else the bloodlines may run together.
but i get ahead of myself. squee~

There are plenty of ways to have wingless dragons breed, even with other winged ones. Synths, flight-aids, magic, even ground-matings-- which do happen, I assure you XD
:: likes wingless, too, personally >.> ::
Oh, but if you like 'em, thas cool XD Just saying, if you were laboring under a misconception, might as well correct ya, yes? ^^
