Mhara Varrey

Post by Shiolar »

Now, this information isn't up on Mirus itself just yet, namely because there's a lot of other things I need to type up in order for it all to make sense, BUT:

I'm now accepting Candidates for the Mhara Varrey. Sorry guys, no sponsoring for these, unless you have an extremely excellent story, for reasons which will become apparent as I describe the species in a bit more detail.

Before I do that, however, feast your eyes upon Ruiquar Erany'Delphio, one of the adult Mhara Varrey who protects the Kiarkyl Muir Lagoon and helps young Mhara Varrey to find their bonds:

Now, you may have noticed those little gems on her fins. These are what, I hope, will motivate some story writing. Obviously, the gems will look better on later images. I did Ruiquar for practice.

Mhara Varrey have to bond, and they do so when they reach six months old. They come, with their parents and the rest of their pod, to Kiarkyl Muir Lagoon, a sacred place for the Mhara Varrey. On the seabed, amongst all the beautiful white sand, are magical bonding gems.

These vary in size and colour, but the size is the important part. A Mhara Varrey will choose the gem they're most drawn to and with it they will bond, most often to a member of their pod, but for the purposes of adopting, they can bond to pretty much anything that's sentient and happens to be there at the time.

When a Mhara Varrey bonds a Candidate, they therefore get a gem, and the size will be determined by your Candidate's story. Then, after bonding, the Mhara Varrey and their new bond can seek to strengthen their bond, which basically means finding extra gems on the seafloor.

Then, when the Mhara Varrey reaches adulthood, you'll have a total value of gems. You let me know what colours, sizes and positions you want, and they get added to the adult image of your Candidate's Mhara Varrey.

There's an additional bonus to writing good stories, of course, for the Mhara Varrey with the strongest bonds, ie the highest value of gems, gets more and stronger abilities. The colours of the gems don't have any effect, other than aesthetic.

The individual gems are valued as:

1 huge gem = 2 large gems
1 large gem = 3 medium gems
1 medium gem = 4 small gems
1 small gem = 5 tiny gems

1 huge = 2 large = 6 medium = 24 small = 120 tiny

Now, obviously, if you earn a huge gem or two, you can split them down into smaller units. But for the sake of my sanity, you can't take 2 huge gems and split them down into 240 tiny gems (although such a gem encrusted Mhara Varrey probably would look cool...)

I'm hoping that I'm not stepping on your toes, Dray and Phe, since you did the whole upgrading adult images of dragons first... But I think this is significantly different enough from cyborware, yes?

Finally, the different types of Mhara Varrey are equally ranked, but they do have some different personality traits:
Acuto: Solid, down-to-earth, and sensible, but usually having a good level of intelligence to match their logic.
Coeruleo: Athletic, adventurous and curious, and therefore can be rather reckless and chaotic.
Comerso: Quiet, unassuming, usually rather shy and reserved, and often loners.
Delphio: Energetic, playful and affectionate, these Mhara Varrey are the most friendly and gregarious.
Tursio: Highly intelligent, but also natural-born jokers, so they often struggle to take life seriously.

There may be some colour variation between individuals of the same type, if I feel like colouring several different shades.

Now, if after reading all that, you're still interested:

Is there any sort of deadline? I have an idea of who to send, but the story would be... complicated XD

No deadline at all. It's open until further notice, and bondings will be on a bond-upon-arrival basis. So write away and take your time! The sound of a complicated story fills me delight, it really does.

Oh yes, these guys can bond to someone who's already bonded, if that helps at all. Naturally, they form pods with many individuals all bonded to various other individuals, so bonding to someone who already has a bond won't bother them too much.

Please tell me there'll be a clutch of these pretties later on? XP I think i'm gonna have to sit this first one out, but I'll definately grab them up next time around if i've got the chance. No time to write a story, and no free candidates that can go to a sea place-- theonly two i had are currently elsewhere. ;-;

There's not going to be another clutch because this isn't a clutch now, as such. Mhara Varrey are nearly always single-birth, but twins happen sometimes. They bond when they reach six months old, but there's always Mhara Varrey calves needing bonds in Kiarkyl Muir Lagoon. So send a Candidate it whenever they're ready, and time-permitting for me, they get one straight away.

I'm so tempted that - if given the chance of breaking down two huge gems - cover the creature with 240 tiny gems. XD

Would an ubber, fantastic, amazing story geet us that? X3 Not that I think I'll be able to pull it off - but it's always good to have something to work for (even if it is impossible), ne?

An uber fantastic amazing story would get you one huge gem, and then a really nice post-bonding story would get you another huge gem. But I did say that I wouldn't do it, if you wanted to break down 2 huge gems into 240 tiny gems... My sanity must be considered...

True... Your sanity is important, so I won't break them into so much pieces. XD
