Kenist Miana updates - first batch GROWN! +breeding info!

The decision process has been long in coming, but the moment is finally at hand. The five remaining potentials have been escorted to a large, bright room in Kenist Miana, with one side entirely open to the fields and distant forest and the floor covered with soft carpets and rugs.

There in the room wait the Sharians who will be creating and sealing the bonds. There do not appear to be any Enkeyns whatsoever, though several can be seen in the far distance. Perhaps the parents, already gone on their ways..?

Loud noises suddenly start to develop in the hallway outside the room, growing steadily louder. Then, in a burst of color and sound, the first of the younglings appear, and the bonding begins..

Whoo, it's bonding time!

These pups are all now two years of age. They are no longer nursing, and all now eat simple solid foods (meat for the four winged ones, grains and veggies and other vegeterian goodness for the Rainforest). Mentally, they are about equivilent to a 5-year old child, fully capable of speaking and reasoning.

You have two weeks to get the pups up on their respective pages. Not sure when they will grow to adults, but hopefully it will be soon after ^_^; Their personalities will also become more developed with adulthood.

Congrats to Shou Xiao Chiu Bai, Kayla, Itto, Palmur Tajar, and Alyx Winters!

Personality: Shy and reclusive, this little Wanderer needs to warm up to people, and it can be difficult to get him out of his shell.
Notes: Manarilin is currently in his winter colors - his summer colors are mottled patches of brown. Maybe they'll be shown on his adult image..?

Personality: What his parents were doing naming him 'Delicate Flower,' I have no idea. This little bundle of energy and mischief keeps everyone who lives around him on their toes.
Notes: Amaneris'kalal has the feathered head crest typical of Rainforest Enkeyns.

Personality: Avena'anala is named for her parents' lost home, a quiet and peaceful place where they had expected to raise their children. She lives up to her namesake, showing a remarkable amount of calm for someone her age. Avena'anala seems to take a quiet joy in life and everything in it.
Notes: Her claws are made of solid stone, which is the defining trait of Mountain Enkeyn. She needs to eat the ocassional pebble or rock shaving to keep them strong.

Name: Katanda'erlin

Aura: Silver speckled with red.

Personality: This little gal is quite aggressive, and has a tendency to be a little too rough when she's playing. She's going to require some careful handling.. She's used to living in a large group, so being away from her family may come as a shock.
Notes: Her spiral horns are just little stubs at the moment, and she'll receive the feathers of her tribe when she's older.

Markings: Painted back and face
Magical abilities: Telepathy
Aura: Pale purple and green patches laced with black.
Bond type: Full words (like speaking) and emotions.
Personality: Derndin's parents weren't exactly what one would call.. normal. Some say that they spent a little too much time in the hot desert sun. Besides his somewhat peculiar name, Derndin didn't receive entirely typical care before coming into the hands on his bonded. As a result, his behavior is very bizarre, full of sudden mood swings and sudden lashes of temper.
Notes: You can see the typical Desert Enkeyn furred soles. Awww!

And can they communicate with other dragons and humans besides their bonded in such a fashion? Only reason I ask is because she communicates with Palmur through emotions and images. Can she communicate with him telepathically, as well?

As I'd stated previously, nobody was really sure how the bond would affect the Enkeyn and bonder. It turns out that it effects each Enkeyn differently depending on race (or at least they think it's race.. nobody's really sure yet, and it'll probably take a few more batches to find out).

You can see how their bond works with this stat:

Bond type: Images and emotions.

That means that he can only speak with his bonded through images and emotions - not words at all. If he encounters another being with the ability of telepathy (or mindspeech, or what have you) then they can communicate with words and such - basically mindspeech as normal.

Enkeyn are always able to mindspeak with each other, and it's assumed they use their own language to do so.

Does that make any sense? ^_^;

The bond between Enkeyn and bonder is kind of forcing to bonder to adopt a mindspeech ability, but very limited in that they can only communicate with their Enkeyn. Nobody's really sure how the Sharians have accomplished this, but it seems second-hand to them now.

Not sure what the next batch's theme is going to be.. I might see if people are interested in breedings. At the same time, I don't know if I want to go through the effort.. I'm happy with the effort people have gone to with the stories and page designs and such, but at the same time.. I dunno. Feels like I'm not really a part of things here >_>

I think the best way to become "a part of things" is really just to stick around, Skysong. I know there are people who've been here for ages, so they're the big names and the ones everyone knows - and I'm totally not one of them, so I know what it's like just being in the background. But just talking to people is one of the best ways to fit in - and the better way is adopting out creatures, which you're doing beautifully. ^^

The community's definitely changing - we used to be mostly Pern-oriented and very writing focused, and we have a lot more wonderful artists around these days. I do miss the writing, since I'm no artist myself, but I love seeing (and adopting, when I can) the beautiful animals other people create. I love your style, the uniqueness and the sense of reality your drawing have - and I think you'd be missed more than you probably think.

We all seem to ADORE Enkeyn (Iiiiiii dooooo!) and I know there are plenty of others who want to adopt one :3 (I want more...) I definately want to breed mine, too :} Once you get a few Enkeyn hybrids running around, you'll be an immutable part of here ;}

I'll update on the weekend ... *lets out long and drawn out sigh as school gradually takes over astra's soul* ... in sophomore aerospace you mostly DONT get free time during the week. Only reason I'm on the nexus now is because I had to run home (to my parents house) to grab a few things I forgot... But theres my excuse for not posting. They really are awesome and to be honest the fact that you color them with colored pencil makes them SO unique compared to most cyberpets, and you put such effort into them too. Preliminary Enkeyn breeding information, whoo! These are going to be renamed when they're more finalized ^__^ Basically, Enkeyn breed in these ways:

Lifepaired - These Enkeyn are going to be together for life! They are utterly dedicated to one another, and will not breed with any other Enkeyn. These kinds of bonds are encouraged by the fact that lifepaired Enkeyns will alway produce twins. Sometimes a lifepairing doesn't work out, resulting in a pairbreaking and leaving the two Enkeyn at loose ends. Pairbreaking is not encouraged, however, as it tends to get an Enkeyn down and not in a lovin' mood.

Harems - A female Enkeyn can have a group of males with which to make pups, called a 'Harem.' Harem sizes can be anywhere from 1 to 20 males, but always only 1 female. When the female lead of the Harem decides it is time to breed, a breeding session takes place, where she and all the males collect in one area and.. well, you know. A male may be in more than one Harem, but if he is a member of two Harems that are participating in a breeding session simultaneously, he must choose which Harem he will be with for that time (sometimes the female insists!).

Scattering - An event known as a 'Scattering' sometimes occurs when a number of Enkeyn, all in their breeding prime, are concentrated into one place. These are fairly rare. An Enkeyn participating in a Scattering may have more than one partner, and generally the only way to tell who fathered a pup resulting from a Scattering to compare traits. The Scattering generally takes place in the air, and wingless Enkeyns utilize spells in order to participate. Lifepaired Enkeyn do not participate in Scatterings.

Other species - Sometimes an Enkeyn will breed with another species of dragon, with.. interesting result. These Enkeyn tend to be somewhat adventurous, but will generally not breed with a dragon that is very much larger than them.
NOTE: Before an Enkeyn is going to breed with another dragon species, please contact me to ask permission. I'm kind of.. neurotic about my babies >_>

I don't think I'm going to give pup preference to the owners of the parents, simply because it will limit the chances of everyone getting a chance to bond, though I'm not sure how most people deal with that kind of thing here. If Enkeyn produced more than one pup per breeding I could see it, but.. Ahh, I'm still thinking about and finalizing all of this stuff. But I really want to start on the breedings soon!
