Eeeh... filterhate!

Post by Samber »

So my filter is not letting me view either of the threads I've made since I came back, and I can't constantly be grabbing my dad and forcing him to type the password, so, odd request I know, but could y'all be a little careful with what sort of language you use? I have no idea what set it off.... possibly it doesn't like Shard... but I really can't, say, reply and color dragons unless I can read peeps' posts. So the edit button is your frieeend...

Um, yeah, that's all. Thanks, guys.

X_x that's maddening. you have my consolations, though my post was clear of anything that could mess up the filter, methinks.

So.... wait. How many people are using your computer that are under 18? :) Setting any language filters on a computer is a major pain. (myself, I'd just set it slightly higher, but then I'm the only one using my computer.) Filters just how much? Instead of just one word, an entire person? Or what? Tell him I think that's insane. :)

I don't think my dad knows how to change the settings... I do know that it blocks the word for a non-juvenile creature (watch me be clever!) but I dunno what else... possibly it has a problem with bricks. *shrug* I do know that it hasn't been a problem before, but we just changed the settings because of... issues...

...and there are 4 of us kids: 17, 14, 11, 7.

You don't need filters, I never had them and I grew up fine.

On the other hand, I never had them either, and look at me. Heh.

Even so, filters seem a bit pointless. Buuuut... normally they're tied in with the browser, so if you switch browsers, you might be able to get away from them.

You could stop it from running, possibly. Depends how everything on your computer is set up, but if you go Start > Run > msconfig > Services (or Startup), and then find it on the list, you should be able to disable it...

There's also the point that if your brothers are gonna get bad language, they prolly get it from school more than the internet...

If it's an external software (non-isp based) then just 'three finger salute' it and have done (For windows of course).

:/ If he went out and bought it, it should come with the option to make useraccounts. Anything worth it's money does. Or maybe you could just make a seperate account on windows, if you have XP, and have your dad change the filters on that. -shrugs-

Filters are kind of a stupid idea anyways. There's almost always ways around them, they're unstable and block things that may actually be nessicary, and there's good and bad sides to every sort of knowledge. Whatsmore, your brothers will be exposed to everything anyways. But then again, there are reasons for it, too.

still, dead inconvenient. good luck.

1. It's not my computer. It's my dad's. I just use it constantly.

2. My dad has a gazillion passwords on the thing, including for even turning the computer ON, so even if I was willing to, I couldn't.

3. Looking at logs, it really is needed. Just not for me. *sigh*

I'll talk to him, I just hope he listens...
