all this talk about menolly's firelizards reminds me of this image from the cover of Dragonsinger, which is probably one of my favorite cover art images, ever. It just portrays so much emotion, and a level of detail that for some reason really made the world in that book come alive for me when I read it at age 13. The firelizards look kind of ... not like firelizards, but I still thought it was brilliant at the time.
heeh - How about this one?
This is one of my alternate-world 'clones', and yeah there's one of each. Did this about 1985.

I really like the delicacy and the lines of your flits there, Shard - they remind me of the coverart on my (admittedly quite old) paperbacks of Dragonsong and Dragonsinger, which had almost an art nouveau look to them, and very graceful, very dainty flits. Oddly enough, Pernese dragons have always been much stronger and sturdier-looking in my head, and I know that the firelizards were supposed to look merely like miniature dragons, but I've always imagined them best on that artwork.

>Shard: I think I only got one of the three... stupid form's acting up again.
>jess: Sorka's horse was named Doove.
>angeoria: D'you mean this one? Those are the one's my elementary school had, and I loved the cover art... actually found a used copy of the Dragonsong peperback at my library book sale a while back. Bought it, of course.
Ehh. Now I have to figure out who gets the extra fire-lizard. Help?

That's probably the image I had seen before making this pic, they look very similar. With those splayed feetses.
I stopped using an ink nib shortly after doing this pic - they break, they're really hard to use. This picture was probably one of the best ones I did, and even it is really poor compared to what a professional could have done, so I just stopped. It's way more work than I like, I much prefer the simple lines of rapidographs and even just microns, at this point, though the line variation is something I miss. ... plus the scan? Those colors are only vaguely similar to the real thing. Her clothing's tunic trim is *brown*, the outfit's lavender. Everything in fact is just a little less red than in the scan, but I couldn't remove it. I hate scanning color works.... :/ They always turn out close but no cigar, to me. I know I have a blank of this, somewhere, but it's probably buried waaaaay deep in my storage rooms and I wouldn't stand much chance of finding it among the many things there, to computer color.
Anyway thanks For a 20 year old picture it's not bad.

Not very many better names out there, are there, jess? I like it!
Lakota, mind if I call my brown Croup?
Did you ever read Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere? Mr. Vandemar and Mr. Croup? It's not my favorite of his, but it's up there.

::gringrin:: Sure, use Croup! :D I actually think it's a pretty cool-sounding word. I haven't read that book, but I've heard of that author and I'll look it up next time I'm at Barnes and Noble... I'm starting to re-read my old books because I don't have any new ones :{ I need to expand my author pool, so to speak...
And... I'll name my own firelizard Kansha, which (I think) is Japanese for "mudflat" :}
I'll put him up with my dragon when I get my dragon :3 So excited!

Croup is also part of a horse. It's the section right before the tail above the hindquarters.

Yes. A "stifle" IS part of a horse. I did my research, thank you very much.
And thanks for the confirmation, Angeoria ;}
