Character Rendering - Critiques welcome

This is something that came to my mind and I want to try to color it. This isn't the exact pose for these two I had in mind but I will try that later.

Feel free to make some comments about it (The characters are Naara, who bonded at the OEM, and Asher, who is being sent to JKat once I edit his story...after the fair...)

You seem to have gotten their general appearances down pretty good! The only thing I can think of to say would be to take some photo reference (or find a bunch of pictures from anatomy reference sites on the 'net and use bits and pieces from each) to get an idea of the pose you want! The proportions feel sort of muscle-less, like they have bones but the place where bones connect and muscles grow on top of them is nebulous.

Also, reference for noses specifically would be very good! Whether you're looking at Disney princesses for their simple cartoony noses or real people, I think that right now your noses are floating somewhere between anime pointy-triangle and more north american-style cartoony, so they have some shape and volume, but they don't have nostrils and it's looking really odd!

Yeah, the noses were odd, I know.

And I know I have the poses sketched out on a napkin which I have to try. Thanks Dray. After I recover from the fair I think I'll try it.

Of course, it's usually the coloring on the computer that does it in for me.

Okay, retrying with the pose I wanted to begin with, well, it's closer at least.

I need to fix their faces (both longer, I think, especially Asher's). Of course, now I need to start becoming brave and adding clothing...yeah, I'm afraid I'll ruin the picture...oh, and I need to find some hands in a pose close to that...urg... but this is more like what I wanted for these two. *nods*

Oooh, vast improvement! Good job, Yakima. Did you use reference this time, then?

And heck, if you can't find ref for the hands (and clothes if you want), steal a couple of friends or family members and take quick snapshots. Most people are pretty willing to oblige if you say "IT IS FOR ART"

XD thanks, and yes, I found some images on DeviantART which I molded around for my benfit (Naara was HARD...so many of the models were doing these fae/dramatic poses...grrr...lol)

Here is the updated. Have to get to bed now...

Oh, and I found this model guy and thought of Tayenden.

(altered the eyes). Not quite, but close, because Tay doesn't have the 'stach going - he's too young. But yeah...had to share that one...I think I had too much fun looking through the models...heh...
