I found this template sitting on my machine a while back, and had to go looking for where it came from. While it rather annoys me that I never actually finished the other two bases that went with it (the gargoyles and the werewolves - the gargoyles have a sketch, at least, I lost the were-sketch ages ago), I figured, hey, why not.

So, if you'd like one, fill out ze form. (ignore the missing question, it was supposed to decide which base the rest applied to. And I'm lazy, so don't feel like renumbering and getting myself lost =P )

First batch. Here's the info.

The Vayamir are born as vampires, not made, and so grow up very fast (approximately a year) to their full size, after which they cease aging. They live solely off of blood, and the older they are, the less they have to consume. Young Vayamir need to feed at least once a night (twice to three times a night during their year of growth), while the eldest Vayamir only need to feed about once a week (unless they've been exerting themselves).

The sun is their dreaded enemy, though it doesn't instantly kill an elder Vayamir. Vayamir under one year of age will die if exposed to full sunlight (not sunrise or sunset) for more than a minute or two, Vayamir between one and one hundred years of age will die after about a half hour of fairly extreme pain, Vayamir between one hundred and five hundred can withstand about an hour, and only start feeling pain after a half hour, Vayamir older than five hundred can withstand three to four hours, and only start to feel pain after the second hour. No Vayamir, no matter how old, can walk under the noon sun. This, of course, does not include Vayamir that have the Cloak of Darkness ability.

This does not mean that Vayamir must be asleep during the day (they don't "die" every morning like traditional vampires), but because of their limitations, many do take to sleeping out much of the day.

Vayamir abilities:

Telepathy: strong enough to give them Hypnosis/Control as a free action (meaning, they can speak telepathically without using it, speak telepathically and use it, or use it without speaking first)

Functional Immortality: will not age past a certain point, but can be killed

Teleportation: limited, must have been to the place before, and the longer the distance, the more tiring the transfer. Transferring between worlds is almost impossible unless the Vayamir has purposely forced their endurance

ShapeShifting: True Bat – the ability to take on the form of a bat. Extra heads, tails, and wings will not transfer. The only way to tell a bat-formed Vayamir from a true bit is the eyes, which remain the same color as the Vayamir’s true form.

See Invisible – the ability to see creatures, beings, or things that are otherwise invisible to normal beings. Examples of which include: ghosts, beings with the ability to turn invisible, etc.

Blood Vision - The ability to see the ebb and flow of blood through a creature’s body. Blood “glows” to the Vayamir, meaning that even in true darkness they can see the blood.

Fast Healing- the ability to heal wounds faster than normal. Missing limbs can be healed so long as the Vayamir is willing to spend days recovering and sleeping after spending a whole night and day focusing their power upon just the missing limb. Also, the limbs must be focused upon to heal before the initial wound heals naturally.


After those abilities, all Vayamir have at least two others.

Alter Physical Structure: Mist – the ability to change the physical structure of the Vayamir’s body into a cloud of mist that can go anywhere the wind may go. They can move anywhere by will alone.

Magic: Blood -- the ability to control blood and use it to create any item the Vayamir desires

Magic: Shadow -- the ability to control shadows, which can then be used as spies, attackers, defenders, or to transport the Vayamir from one shadow to another. This can also, to a limited extent, be used to keep the Vayamir from harm during the day, but the concentration required to keep the shadows around the Vayamir rises exponentially with every ten minutes spent out in the sun.

Magic: Moon -- the ability to control moonlight, either brightening or darkening an area. This is also capable of being used to affect moon-phase-dependant creatures such as werewolves

Magic: Void -- the ability to tap into the nothingness that is the void and use the "negative energy" to do harm to others and negate magical attacks.

Turn Invisible -- the ability to turn invisible. This does not save the Vayamir from the effects of sunlight, as this is more the ability to turn transparent than the ability to bend light away

Spider-Climb -- the ability to climb and cling to walls, ceilings, and other such obstacles

Cloak of Darkness -- the ability to walk under the sun (even the midday sun) without harm. This appears as a shroud of darkness that enwraps the Vayamir whenever the ability is activated, and only those with very good night vision (or some other similar ability) can see into the shroud to see what the Vayamir looks like. It's important to note that this ability can be activated at any time, even at night, and so can be used for disguise as well as protection

Dude, cool!

A quick question: can they turn others into vampires, or is this more of a species thing than a traditional vampire thing? Also, are they the undead kind of immortal? If they're born vampires, and they had offspring, would the offspring by vampiric as well (or are their certain restrictions on what they breed with? XD)

eta: are they bipedal, or is that just the image? (Just wondering if the 'height at shoulder' thing means they walk on all fours!)

They can indeed turn others into vampires. These "children" gain the ability to become bats, functional immortality, the limited teleportation, and a very limited form of the Hypnosis/Control ability (the Hypnosis/Control can only be used in conjuction with verbal or telepathic communication). Also, they will gain weakened forms of the ability to see the invisible (only able to see outlines, or to sense that there's something there) and blood vision (it becomes more of a "blood sense", in that they can sense where blood is, but not see it). Their Fast Healing remains, though it's harder for a "child" to heal missing limbs (anywhere from two to three times as difficult, depending upon the willpower of the new child). They gain one of the special abilities (magic, altering physical structure, turn invisible, spider-climb, cloak of darkness) that their creator had (so if a Vayamir has Spider-climb and cloak of darkness, a turned child would have either spider-climb or cloak of darkness).

To turn a creature vampire requires the Vayamir to drain the victim of blood, then give the other its own blood in return. After a few nights of sleep, the new vampire will awaken. Like vampire myths, the "child" will be beholden to the Vayamir for decades, if not centuries, before being finally capable of escaping the control of the Vayamir.

They can breed with anything that doesn't have restrictions against undead things, because while they're not exactly "traditional" undead vampires, they do not and will not show up on any "Detect Life" type of spells. It's better to say that they have an "Unlife" (so Detect Undead type of spells or senses would show them, but only hazily). When breeding with other things, the offspring would remain vampiric for six generations. At the seventh generation away from the last Vayamir ancestor, the vampiric heritage will "flip" and go dormant, though they're likely to remain sun-sensitive for a few generations more.

Offspring of mixed Vayamir heritage will retain most (if not all) of the Vayamir standard abilities (losing strength and sometimes losing abilities as the generations go on). The first abilities to be lost would be the special abilities (the magics, spider-climb, and so on), the last ability lost is the Fast Healing, with the rest vanishing randomly as the generations go on. (And the vanishing abilities is not linked to clutches, one child may retain all skills, while his sister has lost the ability to shapeshift, and a brother can still shapeshift, but can't see blood anymore).

Also, since I'm on the topic of clutches, Vayamir tend towards small clutches, of between one to four children. The eggshells are thick and very heavy, requiring the mother or father (depending upon which parent is more "maternal") to rip the shells apart. The children will only hatch at night, and require blood immediately upon hatching, often provided by the parent (either directly (as in the parent allows the child to feed upon them) or indirectly (the parent provides some beasts of burden/humans/whatever came to hand, typically hypnotized into passivity, for the children to feed from). Vayamir can be ruthless when it comes to their clutches - their children are capable of telepathy right before they hatch, and some parents refuse to let "weak" or "soft" hatchlings live, instead letting them die inside their shells, unable to break free.

Vayamir eggs have no need to be kept warm. Indeed, too warm, and the eggs will die before hatching (many hatching sands would be too hot for Vayamir). Like many reptiles, the temperature of the egg determines the gender of the child - hotter eggs become females, cooler eggs become males. The exact borderline between female and male is difficult to determine, but it tends to be 30-50 degrees F is male, 50-70 degrees F is female, with the borderline around 50 as an "unknown" zone.

Cross-breeding with other species will eventually produce a thinner shell, and will raise the temperature tolerances.

The Vayamir that watches the eggs need not be the mother. As mentioned previously, it's whichever parent has more "maternal" instincts, or whichever wants the task of raising the children. As they tend to be loners (for the same reason that many large predators are loners, there's a limited food supply in a given area, and often a territory can only supply food for one young Vayamir, given how often they need to drink. Older Vayamir are more often clustered together than younger Vayamir), it's rare for both parents to watch over the eggs.

They can bond, though many see it as a weakness (and many Vayamir will refuse to let hatch any child who expresses a desire to bond). They can, and do, form partnerships with other races (ala you give me blood, I give you protection), though they tend to gather three or more partners around them, to keep from draining one partner to death. (As such, Vayamir could easily be used as bonders to multiple dragons, because doing that, bonding other "weaker" creatures to them, is not considered weak, rather, just the desire to bond themselves to a "lesser" creature like a human or a dragon-race. Similarly, bonding between two Vayamir is not considered weak, though is considered odd, due to previously mentioned food-problems).

Hmm.. think I'm out of stuff to ramble about...

EDIT: They're fully bipedal. I don't know why it says height at shoulder, besides me copy/pasting from other stat-sheets I've used for other templates. No, that height is from toes to top of head. So, in most cases, they're not much bigger than your average-tall human, it's just the neck makes them taller, and the wings make them look huge.

I would say it'd be uncommon, but not unheard of, for the two heads to be distinct.

In all situations, multiple heads have multiple "minds" for processing, but in many situations, these minds would merge to form one overmind, with one personality and one name. Thus, it's possible that the minds never merged (or refused to merge) and thus became two distinct entities.

Unless you want them to be related, all Vayamir that I'm handing out are considered unrelated.

Also, the only hard breeding taboo that Vayamir have is between children and their parents (more generally, between elders and youths, because the pairing cannot be equal, which shows weakness in one), though they frown on same clutch sibling-sibling breeding. Siblings are "discouraged" from breeding because it has a tendency to produce strange results like albinism (because that's ALL a vampiric race needs, albinism on top of inability to deal with the sun as youngsters), mentally unstable offspring (think out there out there. So out there that even the insane thing them insane), and "unnatural" powers (enough sibling-sibling breeding and the Vayamir start reverting to their ancestral heritage, which is less 'civilized' vampire, and more 'feral beast' vampire, complete with different, more instinctual power-sets).
