WOW!! :D They're all so pretty! Thank you so much!

I will get them paged and named immediately. :) And, since so many people have been sharing cat pics, I need to jump on that bandwagon. I'm ALWAYS ready to talk about kitties:

These are just really well done Dray! I think the "Lemon Bar" is my favorite out of this batch though. The white spotty is also awesome!

Ah man, the lemons are the best! Extreme dilute is the most recessive of the dilution gene family, too, so Erinn got really lucky!

Also, lol, "I'm a fatty!" XD

Neogeen, your first random fella wound up getting the 'bald headed' pattern! I love these random things that come up. :D

This thread makes me want to stamp my feet and demand a kitty of my very own...but my dad would kill me. ^^;
Neogeen, the best site I've found for cat color genetics is this:
http://www.fanciers.com/other-faqs/color-genetics.html
and it's fairly easy to find horse genetics online.
[EDIT] I think I found some good sites for gerbil colors as well a while back, though I don't remember what they were, but I haven't checked out any others.
Darkling Dawn: Fauna Frenzy Open to candidates; flights open to males/females; rukel eggs/breedings available.
Drockh-Tallahn Castle: 3 eggs, 2 available. Females and males needed.
Sgiath Wolfkeep: 7 pups available
Sedona Weyr: 12 eggs, Deadline March 8. Chasers and a female needed.

Here is a genetics page (or at least the starter!) if you are interested in drawing and breeding your own cats in this style -- you can of course breed your own without using the genetic system, this is only required if you want to create an official breed!

http://dray.pegaruny.com/Dragons/WCGenetics.htm

At the moment, the three basic colours and the six basic patterns are uploaded and explained. I will eventually include example images to help clear things up!

Please let me know if it doesn't read clearly, or if there are terms that seem vague or just weird. I'll try to hunt down those lethal genes and display them in big blinking red letters or something at the top of the page. XD The only one that I think who's effected so far is Erinnyes' Almond male. Two Almond genes (St) together are lethal... the rest I think are fine!

I'll be updating this as I go along, so check back!

If and when you have examples of these, please include a thumbnail of it ;)

I've avoided sex-linked things on Ferilons because MAN it's hard to keep track of that stuff as easily as for non- linked.

True that!

Once I have some more time I'll definitely include some examples, though for these genes, things are more guidelines than "this looks exactly like the example!"... especially when things start to intermix and cause strange effects!

I'm finding that so long as I know which genes are sex-linked, it's not too bad for keeping track of things. Females get one, males get two, is all. XD We'll see how that goes once breeding starts, though!

eta: I've got most of the genes up that I have data for. All that's left is the Grizzle family, and then a bunch of genes that don't have multiple alleles on their various locii. Some I may just write 'description pending' as I figure out what they refer to. XD I'm hoping that having one big list with relatively clear descriptions will make it easy for people to breed and create their own cats independent of what I'm making. :D

What about the existing kitties that were given out earlier? Are you going by any of those appearances at all?

Nah, not yet. I'm working solely off of pigeon breeds for the genetics aspect. I may try to incorporate cat genes at some point, but I'm going to keep things simple on JKats advice. XD Less chance of getting horribly bamboozled and frustrated with the project!

Not that these cats couldn't be bred with the spotty tabby kinds. I just don't have a code in place, so you'd have to eyeball it for offspring.

Ah okay that's fine with me. :) I seriously doubt I'd be able to emulate actual patterning the way you do, though lol!

I read all the information you posted (trying to wrap my head around a litter of kittens already) - and as soon as my eyes uncrossed I believe it sank into my dense rock-like head.

It reads clear and concise, thank you for it! Just so much information. Whew.

Yeah, there is a metric craptonne of info there. All you need to know are those three base colours and the various levels of checker vs bar. Everything else is just icing on the cake!

The last few tables may have a few errors, I haven't gone through and spell-checked. XD I'll try to get up the info that's not yet listed soon... those are mostly the ones that the fella listed but didn't describe in much detail. Also should have a 'information thanks to Ron Huntley!' caption at the bottom! :o

Oh man, kitties. *rolls around*

Thank you so much Dray! I love these a crazy amount, you have no idea.

The Velvet Blue Tiger Grizzle turned out really outstanding!

Thanks for listing out the genetic code, it'll help me in the long run a ton.

Ahaha, kitties.

I'm amused that this code causes tabby markings to be in the minority, sorta. XD It's neat! Glad you like! (I'm slowly working on the next batch. :o)

I've been looking at the code for cat coats and it seems like they would be fairly easy to mix... Just use the Agouti gene to determine which pattern is "dominant".

I'm confused as to how you're handling your sex-linked genes though. Is it because pigeons are backwards (males XX and females XY)?

Males have two of a kind for the sex-linked chromosomes and females only have one! I know that this is the opposite for how cats work... but I like it! I'm not going to include cat-genes yet. Maybe once the current set begin to get boring...

That's not to say that if you guys want to draw up some tabbies, you can't! And if you don't mind click-and-takes, I have a thread in here somewhere that should still be displaying them all! I just think that sticking with the current set and not getting too ambitious is a really good idea right now.

(PS: Working on Aressaun's batch now! Once I have a few more people on the list done I'll set up a breeding raffle to get things underway. :D)

So yeah, the males are XX and the females are X- or XY. It's typical of fowl, if I remember correctly, but mammals are usually like us.

That makes combining two genetic codes annoying, as the orange tabby gene is incomplete dominant yet sex linked, thus only females can be calicos/tortoiseshells (as only they can be Oo). Hmm...

Finally figured out where these guys can go!

Aren't they actually referred as ZW or something instead of XY to make a distinction between the systems? Heh, pedantics. X3
