Miner Daemons (Gem Dragon giveaway!)
Soooo I actually did something for this month. :D More info forthcoming. I just want to actually get a couple out maybe tonight!
Your Name:
A Gemstone: (participants can name 2 if they'd like) (these can be precious gems, but if you choose something opaque and/or with texture like a type of agate or a turquoise or jasper, that might be interesting tooo...)
A Color:
Miner Daemons
So these guys are daemons, so they have a couple of innate powers:
- They can influence their own offspring's genetics to some degree. You can decide the degree of this, from being able to change colors, to changing physical traits, all the way up to adding or taking away limbs, tails, heads, whatever.
- They suck magic. They can steal magic from magic users, spells, or any other place that keeps or stores magic, and use it for themselves.
- Love is an addictive drug to them, and withdrawal (getting dumped, their mate dying, whatever) can get nasty. The more drastic cases can end in death, oh my! Anyways, this makes them more prone to taking a pragmatic approach to child-bearing and -rearing. They probably won't have any qualms about mating with friends if they want kids, though they understand that reproduction and romantic love are tied for most species. The nicer ones will respect this. The dicks will mock it.
Now specific info about miner daemons!
The fringe along their backs is kind of a fluffy... well, fringe thing. It's not fur, or feathers, or anything. The closest analogue is fins on a sea creature, although that's not entirely correct either. In any case, its purpose is to cast light while underground, via natural bioluminescence. Their eyes also glow in this manner.
They have twelve limbs: Four walkin'-limbs, two for the wingish-things along their backs, and six that end in scythelike pick style things. These are very strong, and can pick away at rock. The horn on their faces is also very strong, and can serve the same purpose.
The gemstone or gemstones that they look like are, well, mostly cosmetic, though they may have a vague affinity for the particular type of gem. All miner daemons, however, can sense vibrations through solid matter and interpret them in a quite sophisticated manner. They're often able to tell if there's a vein of precious ores or stones inside a solid rockface, or if there are dangerous faults that might threaten a mining operation. The tentacle-whiskers on their faces aid with this by touching the rock and sensing the vibrations -- they're very sensitive, and a miner can get pretty pissed off if you hurt one of their whiskers. They also have a number of hearing organs along their sides -- look closely, you may see a series of small dots. That's them. As such, they have exquisitely sensitive hearing, and may not like being in loud places very much at all.
Any questions? :D

You people, you keep choosing black. XDD Black's not a darn color, it's a shade! Teach me not to specify... ANYways, the color was supposed to be the color of the bioluminescence of the fringe along their backs, but all of you who chose 'black' got an inverted kind of effect that... I don't know how pleased I am with, but gosh knows y'all might like it. X3 If anyone who chose 'black' (or, I guess 'silver' as that's not a color either, and 'white' XD) as their color wants to change it, just let me know and I'll make you a replacement!
