[ Reenee's Art Corner ] New original work
Okay! So I'm planning to attend a round of anime conventions in 2009, and I want to do some Artists Alley-ing.
I'm going to be doing some 8x10 prints and 11x14 prints, and a friend of mine that attends cons gets bookmarks, stickers and pins done, so I'm going to ask where she gets those done and get some, too.
What do I need from YOU? Suggestions as for what I should draw! What kind of stuff would you buy? What characters and/or series would you like to see?
Original work:
- Ryo
Pokemon Pinups! (suggestions?)
- Plusle + Minun
- Vulpix
- Tauros
- Blissey
Fanart To-Do List:
- L / Kira (Death Note)
- Misa / Rem - WIP (Death Note)
- Chi / Sumomo (Chobits)
- Sakura / Mokona / Syaoran (Tsubasa)
- Yuuko / Watanuki / Domeki (xxxHolic)
- Dante (+Nero? Or +one of Nero on his own?) (Devil May Cry 4)
- Link (Zelda)
- Sephiroth (FFVII)
- Kaileena (Prince of Persia: Warrior Within)
- Spike (Cowboy Bebop)
- Faye (Cowboy Bebop)
- Dark / Daisuke (DN Angel)
For all you con-goers; as far as I'm aware at this point, I won't be able to travel too far from home.
So on my list of conventions to attend next year, I've got:
- G-Anime (Gatineau)
- Anime North (Toronto)
- Otakuthon (Montreal)
- AC-Cubed (Ottawa)
Commissions
Process
ALL COMMISSIONS AT THIS POINT WILL BE DIGITAL
I send you picures with "sample" stamped across them as I go through it for your approval. One after I've sketched it, one after I've inked it, etc. Once I'm finished the piece and you approve of the "sampled" copy, you provide payment and I e-mail you a high-res (400dpi) copy of the image and you can do what you want with it!
Prices
BUST (shoulders & up, 8x10)
- $20 CAD via cash, +$2 for Paypal transfer
FULL BODY (8x10)
- $30 CAD via cash, +2 for Paypal transfer
- +$20 per every additional character
- +$20 for detailed background
- +$10 to upgrage to 11x14
Commission Slots
- RL friend (pending)
He hasn't decided what he wants so I'll do any other commissions I get first, until he does.

For myself, whenever I go to the San Diego con, it's for original stuff. I don't do fandom mostly, at least when I do it's not OF the characters it's for original characters in the universes. My vote's for having a sketchbook or schedule open for taking commissions and be ready to be flexible.

Oh I definately plan to do commissions. My friends who've gone AA-ing have gotten most of their money from it. So I intend to invest in a selection of good pencil crayons and markers (drool).
So far, the advice I've gotten is "do fanart!", because while they've asked "what would you buy?" and a lot of people SAY they'll buy original art... most don't. Unless they're stupidly . talented.
I still want to do some original work, but I want my fanwork to outnumber it... at least for now.

Well true too - you'd be going to anime cons and not just 'in general' cons

I'm going to my first anime con in August, and my hopes is to buy thingie-type stuff. Art is wonderful, and I do have some that friends have bought for me as gifts when I couldn't attend all the times before, but this time I hope for "thingies". X3 Pins I could wear, a plushie to prop up on my desk...something with more use or flaunt than just art! So because of that, I voted "thingies". X3

If you want to sell things? Try something functional. Pins, plushies, keychains, maybe even make some jewelry or something.
As an artist/art major (I'm eventually going to get a decent portfolio here... I'm looking -so- forward to going back to art classes in the fall), I'd have to say I honestly don't buy 2-D art. It just doesn't appeal to me. At least not of the picture variety.
If you did something in fibers, or wearable, or plushies (I adore plushies), I would be a lot lot LOT more apt to buy something. However, I'm not going to be there, I just suspect that a lot of people like something more... tangible... than 2-D artwork?

Still gaming? Take a look at Atonement RPI.
Update! New stuff!
This is... kind of... original stuff. I'm drawing a series of pin-up girls as Pokemon.
Pokemon Pinups! (suggestions?)
- Plusle + Minun
- Vulpix
Also, I'm taking commissions! Check for info on the first post if interested! ^o^

So I'm taking a little bit of a break from my fanart + fanart inspired work to draw one of my own characters,
Ryo!
I made him back in 2003... it's amazing the progress you make over the years. o_O
