Help with wings

Post by Guest »

Hello. I have this image below that I want to add wings to. Bird wings, Bat wings and Butterfly wings. Problem is, with the pose I cant work out what angle and where the wings actually go. Ive tried looking for birds in a similar pose, but thats near impossible..
If someone could offer any help, or possibly sketch in some oval shapes or something to show where they think the wings would go, that would be of great help.

I would suggest - unless there's a size / shape restriction:

On the right side (of the picture not the animal) stretch the wing out so that you can see most of it. On the other side, have the wing nested over the body. You might lose some of the detail over the side of the animal, but it would look very dynamic.

Here, thought these might help you visualize it better. Both views are from [0,0,0] and I spun the models to what I think would fit you picture the best. Counter clockwise tilt 30 degrees, then a negative 35 on the downward.

And here it is. What do you all think?

Ok, so you can see the wolf behind the wings, just ignore that. Im thinking, when its coloured that it wont matter as long as I put the wings in the foreground.

I like em, but the tilt kind of irks me. A bit too forward for the wolf in the position, maybe back by 20 degrees or so.

They're upside down... Not really but they seem to be twisting in an entirely unnatural way toward the front. When a bird 'mantles' something, wrapping their wings around something, the tips do go forward, but not from the 'wrist' like that... Nice clean lines, but they just kind of make me worried that the thing's got its wings on wrong.

I like it! XD It gives the wings this much more swivelly look, I suppose. They don't seem to connect to the back in any way, save for at the shoulder, though. :\ If that guy tried to fly, he'd be flapping really hard to try to get any lift, since there's a big gap between his back and the feathers closest to it!

I like the tilt, I like the feathers, and I think you could get away with colouring them up and having done with them right now. I'm just nitpicking about structural anomolies now. XD

If you tilt the wing *downward*, it would be in a more correct position. Remember that feathers don't just spring straight from the bone, there's a kind of paddle-like shape, a squashed arm, that they cover. It's hard for me to explain in words, I might take a stab at lining the pic, give me a minute. :)

**

I can't really do much with it, without just covering it with scribbly lol. The tilt of the wings needs (to be more physically correct I should say) to come downward, the 'fingers' and 'elbow' ought to face toward the ground, rather than facing upwards - particularly on its left wing. The right-hand one is okay, though again it needs a bit more 'flesh' connecting the wing joint to the body (again imho).

If you stretch your arms out like a bird, and tilt your elbow down your fingers can't go in that posture because of the angle of the rest of the arm. It's kinda like that. Rather than see so much of the *underside* of the wing, with them up like that and at the angle we see of the wolfy back, the top of the wing or at least more of the 'front/edge' of the wing could be seen. The feathers closest to the body would curve with the flesh part, like if you twist a piece of paper. That's what's very hard to superimpose on the pic. :)

I think of these, the first version is the one I prefer most, really. The last one kinda scares me :)

I really dont want to try and change it again.

So you like the top one the best? I think it looks better, myself.

If you don't want to re-draw them, I'd suggest the top one.

XD I don't think there's any way to get them more physically accurate with the drawing that you currently have, but since you don't want to re-do it, maybe it would be better just to keep anatomy in mind for the next pic you draw. This one is pleasing to the eye, which is probably what counts at this stage. XDD
