What IS that from? You're not the first person on a forum that's put that out.... I don't get it. I'm assuming it's from some kind of tv show I don't watch...

*edit*

Ah, it's the Portal thing. Yeah I saw the supposed cake recipe. I wonder if anyone's gonna try making it.... and did you see the actual cake someone made? :D

lawl :)

Unfortunately without having played any console games? VGcats is one of those strips that I get maybe 1 in 10 of the jokes. Ah well. The only reason I know of the cake thing is because I read Nodwick. :)

I suspect *everywhere*. That game is like, huge apparently. I played a cute little ripoff flash game like it, only like, not 3d or rendered or with any kind of cake.

lol.

it's from Portal, a new and really short game that's part of The Orange Box.
They basically took Half-Life 2 and turned it into a puzzle game. you run around solving puzzles and going through tests using a gun that makes portals to other parts of the room(s)
Edit: whoops just saw your edit XD oh well, I guess this can inform other people.

A friend of mine just tried to get me into that game... But the first-person shooter perspective confuses me no end :p

That's why I played the flash version. It's just a cutaway :)

It's also kind of why I would never be able to jump into buying a console and playing some of these new games. They rely so heavily upon knowing how to hold the handset, what the little buttons are for, and having a prior concept of how to run the games at all. I never played anything other than pc games all this time, aside from pinball (real world) and my old atari 2600 (yes, I had one). I'm so not a 'gamer' gamer, but I adore the games I do play.

Oooh speaking of that, download this puppy...
http://www.addictinggames.com/momentummm2.html

It's probably the best flash-based game ever produced, and I mean ever. Learning curve is okay, frustration level medium, but oh my god what a satisfying bunch of crunching and explosions.
Highly recommend download, because lag plays a strong role in the game...

I'm a puzzle-gamer. If I can be the only living thing in the game and there is nothing that can kill me I'm happy ^^ Like in Shivers where the baddies were announced by music :D

yeah, I'm awful with first person shooter controls. I played it for an hour or so a few nights ago but the first turret level took me a ridiculous amount of time to beat, just because I was so bad at strafing in and out of fire without spazzing out and dying.

Have you heard the end-credits song on Portal?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RthZgszykLs

or http://files.filefront.com/portal+still ... einfo.html to download the mp3

It was written by Jonathan Coulton (http://www.jonathancoulton.com), who's kindof a nut. If you go here, check out Code Monkey, Skullcrusher Mountain and The Future Soon (favorites of mine.)

ROFFLECOPTER oh my goodness how funny. That was the 'companion box' singing, right? :) never having played it, but still. I saw some video of dropping the thing out to kill it, how sad! But .... she's still alive :D heeee

Now though I have to look at this Black Mesa thing, because the logo looks *exactly* like my Zekiran rpg's logo of Free Land Holders. :/ not so good.

I just saw my friend beat this tonight! such a funny end! loved the last level.
The one singing the song is the main computer that's making you run through the tests. The weighted companion cube can't talk, it just.. sits around being a cube X3
