Plant-dragons? o.O

Post by Unyko »

Yeah, so I've been scribbling at this idea for a while, and was wondering if there would be -any- interest at all if I decided to go through with it. Basically, it's an extremely customizable thing, but it'd take a bit of time and effort on the adopter's part. That's the thing.

So far I've got basics figured out, and it'd be entirely possible to just put 'em up on stat pages, so I suppose there's not -that- much effort absolutely neccesary, but the more you put into them, the more you get out in the end, if that makes sense. ^.^;;

See, I've got it set up you'd start out with an almost click-and-take style image, and then depending on where you put it and what you do with it, you can get anything from one small (bonsai! :D) dragon, to three large and one small.

I know I'm being vague, but I guess I just wanted to know if I should pursue the project further, or just drop it. *timid* There's gonna be at least one or two that go out whether there's interest or not. (I ain't tellin who they're going to though - that's a secret. X3) Just, if no one else wants one, those'll be the only ones to come to the nexus. ^.^;

Anyway. I'm still sleepy so I ramble. Point of this post was to find interest - so is there any?

Caco: Yays! <3! *happy wibble*

Shard: *snrk* They can literally be anything you want them to. XD And I don't think chemicals and radiation would be a problem - it might actually make them special in some way or another.

Myr: *more <3!* Silly. 'Good enough' shouldn't even enter your mind for these guys. X3 (Besides, so far every story of yours that I've seen has been 'good enough'. ^.~)

Well, that was a little faster (and more positive) than I expected! XD Hmm, so it looks like I'll be able to work on these guys a little more.

One question though:
How do you have one template with addable features? Classic example would be AAM Beasts, of course. I mean, the actual drawing and inking, not the coloring. I'll probably figure something out myself for the few templates for which this'll be an issue, but out of curiosity, how does everyone else do it? Single basic template drawn and then seperate layers of paper to draw in the next set(s) of traits? Or one fully drawn template with every trait, and then edit on the comp for what is/isn't needed? *curious headtilt*

I use something like a set of already-scanned images, ones I know will match up from having inked em. I just keep parts on hand and then edit the gif image (or whatever) and remove the excess overlap or outlines I don't need, then color. (I have a humanoid maker that uses this feature.)

My Sindri image is just the basic body with different layers for each feature... o.O I dunno how complex yours are gonna be, but layers are a good way to manage interchangeable-featured images.

Plants? Hm. Well, Unyko-stuff is awesome, and I like the Plant Dragons at Lantessama, and I remember some evolving dragon adoptables I've seen floating around...so ja, feed us a bit more info, and I think I'm interested. X3

As for customizable images, for me, it depends. Sometimes one method just works better than another.

The Hathydras at the Destiny? I drew the base 3-head image on paper, and all the 12 other heads were drawn on the computer.

The hydracorns at the Fate? Drew the base 1-headed image, then put it on my lightbox to draw the other two heads on a separate sheet of paper.

The Infernabeasts at the Fate? The image I drew was (for the dragon-types) a 4-headed 4-tailed base. I cut-and-pasted the extra bits from it to put those limbs on other layers. The wings were computer drawn. On the snake-types, I just drew the snake. The arms and wings were more layers.

Whatever way you do it, though, you really want to make sure you know what the image should look like at any level of customization! Helps you decide the best way to break the image up.

More info, ye say? Well how about this then. X3

There will be either 3 or 4 stages for each dragon, but that includes the almost click-and-take container their seeds are grown in, and the plant those seeds grow into. Each plant can bear between one and four small 'pods', which will each hatch into one dragonling. And then, unless the dragon is a 'bonsai', it will have one more stage as an adult.

And for some more scientific info:

These plant!dragons aren't photosynthetic, though they do need the same sort of nutrients that plants need.. so basically they eat dirt. *laff* They also use psychic energies (beings with psychic abilities are good, but they can absorb unused psychic energies from just about anything), both for 'food' and as a sort of bonding. Many don't bond in the same sense that other dragons do, but all of these guys form some sort of bond-like rapport with their caretakers.
At the very least, they get their basic form from those who care for them before their birth. For example, if their caretaker is human, they will be bipedal, with four limbs. If it is, say.. a griffin, they'll be quadrapedal and have wings. It's part of their nature to blend in with the 'norm'. X3

Still interested?

May they (if Trix says yeah) be compatable with the plant dragons and fazzles from Lantessama?

They're so adorable.

And ... lol... bonsai dragons. That is just so cute :D

Shard: Surely! Always depending on the other creator, these guys will probably be compatable with any dragon. I haven't decided yet. ^.^;; Though their primary mode of reproduction is via flowers, so.. yeah, dragons that flower in the same way would be more compatable than those who didn't anyway.

Phe: I'm glad you think so. ^.^

Still interested. Of course. I have a number of herbivore critters who'd love a bond like this.

Hehe. I actually "retired" the bananadragon template a while ago to make room for new and better stuff. ^^ But you can still see 'em out there.

And oh, geez, that sushi dragon was made of win. X3 This brings back memories.

*snrk!* I always thought it was the mouth, too... though I have to admit, now that I know it isn't, I have a hard time seeing it as anything but the eye. XD And it's much cuter this way.

Also: *giggling at the edible dragons* I'm afraid these guys will look much less plant-like than all that.. ^.^; A bit vinelike at times, and they do have flower buds that bloom, but that's about it. Hope you guys'll like 'em anyway!
