"The White Dragon" Custom Pony...WIP Photos!

Post by Samber »

--Scroll down for photos.^^

Original post:

I've recently renewed my interest in My Little Ponies...and discovered customizing. (That is, I've been sitting in the Arena's custom section drooling over all the pretties...)

I'm plotting a customized pony of my own, a Pernese design, and I was wondering if any of you Nexus-folks had some pointers for me?

What I'm thinking I'm going to do, is get one of the sitting ponies to use as the body (pictures here: http://www.kimsites.net/dreamvalley/2nd ... th_ponies2), and borrow the head from a Skyflier or Powder or similarly-posed pony (also pics: http://www.kimsites.net/dreamvalley/3rd ... d_pegasus3) and de-unicornify it if needed. Hopefully it will fit....if not, I can experiment with Sculpey until it does.

For the eyes, I'm going to get some of those plastic "gems" from the craft store--the kind with mirror backing--hopefully they won't melt--and form the eye sockets around them.

I'm going to use Sculpey to add the distinctive brow ridges and headknobs, as well as neck and back ridges, and maybe little claws on the feet...I haven't quite decided what design to use for the tail, it will definitely be Sculpey and probably split-ended.

The wings are going to be the hardest part--I'm thinking I can make a framework with popsicle sticks (some split) and hot glue, and then kind of drape plaster over it to fill out the membrane...I'll have to cut into the pony's back to make slots for the wingarms to attatch too, and that might end up ruining the whole thing. =/ I hope not, though!

After which I will paint it. I'm thinking opal/pearly white, for a Ruth-pony. XD

Has anyone here tried making a Pernese pony before? I've never customized before, much less using Sculpey, so...yiss. Samber needs advice. :)

I was going to modify my one single pony that I bought ... I don't even remember when oh my god I was still living in clairemont... It was like... 25+ years ago, and the single pony that I had I was going to yank the head off and put the torso of one of my 'Dawn' dolls on it.

Iiiiiii never did. Still have both, somewhere... I'm no good at soft plastic mods. I did do a beautiful cat-girl barbie for my ex's little sister, way back when but OH my god it took so long. I basically flocked it. :) By hand. that took a while, about 6 or 7 coats of glue spray and dusting from a sugar sifter thing with the flocking material. heh.

Maybe someday I'll complete a couple of those things. I am looking for an office with a friend to have art space... hmmm...

Good luck on that, though. It sounds like you have a better grip on how you want to do it, than I ever could suggest. :)

I can't suggest anything either, but it does sound incredibly cool! :D I hope you share the results with us!

Have you tried asking on the PI forums? I'm sure that people've played around with mods over there!

Ooh, catgirl barbie? Do you have any photos, preeehaps? *puppy eyes at Shard*

I'm gonna be asking both at PI, and at the MLP Arena--I figure someone's got to know about the head sizes and eye gems. =)

Nah, no photos of it, this was also in high school, so like 22 years ago... :) I don't think I even had a proper film camera at that point, let alone a digital one :)

*grin* Thanks! (And I can't wait to finish it!)

PinkDragon - Sculpey needs to be baked; luckily the pony body didn't get too soft, and the eyes are real crystal. =)

well the tail it pulled out with needle nose pliers and so is the mane after you cut off most of it. then you put the tail back in using a wire to pull it in. the main is done with a needle many actually they tend to break. the pics are big sorry i forgot to resize.

step 1: get small lock of hair
2: Thread onto needle
3: Poke needle & hair loop end first into hole.
4: pull needle along with one side of hair all the way through the hole
5: tie not it hair on the inside part
6. tug hair on outside to pull the not back into the horse

i heard there was an easier way to do it with fine wire but i don't know all i had on hand was a needle i'm going to puck up some wire today

As a pony fanatic I always recomend using ponies that are in great disrepair for coustomising it's such a same when someone uses a mint or good condition pony for such a use.

Please take this into concidoration their are many my little pony collectors who'd gladly trade a custom bait pony for a good condition one.
