Why not decide which ones are more dominant over others, and list them C1, C2, C3, etc? Then whichever one has the number closest to '1' shows up first?

You mean a 'green is dominant over blue, and blue is dominant over purple' type thing?

Or 'bird wings dominant over bat wings, dominant over faerie wings, dominant over no wings', rather. X3 I kind of like your system for mixing colours!

Yeah basically it requires you to decide which ones are more common versus rare, and assign their genes that way.

The thing to really remember is that in a chart like mine, it doesn't matter which gene is on the left or right side of the pair - it's which one is actually more dominant is the one which shows up.

So say the 'long' ear E feature is dominant over the 'rounded' ear e, it could look like

Ee OR eE and still show as a long ear.

I like the idea of modifying color genes too, the Ferilons have a mutation for it (that you can have calico, camouflage, even rasta-furry fur...), but it's a separate thing from the color gene entirely, and passes only when the ferilon has that F gene allowing its carried mutations to show up.

So yeah, deciding if there's a more common versus more rare gene, and whether combining them works just because they are co-dominant, or because there's another gene governing that aspect.

Maybe if two colors are co-dominant, there could be a gene to say whether it's only one, or combined, or both show in equal amounts... just an idea :)

Geez, you guys are really into this! I barely scraped by with a B- in high school biology, and truth be told all I remember is the guy next to me trying to hook up with the hot blonde girl who sat on the other side of me while I sat in the middle trying to be invisible, so I'd never be able to manage something so complicated. Still, good job!

lawlz @ astra :)

It IS complicated, I know a lot of people who look at a chart and kinda go... o.0

This is my ferilon inheritance info page
http://www.geocities.com/ferilon_genes/gene-basics.html

And the genes themselves, with some info sidebar and stuff that hopefully doesn't just make it harder to understand
http://www.geocities.com/ferilon_genes/genechart-2.htm

So within each gene (fur, ears, color, etc) the chart works downward, any time you'd see a capitalized letter plus marking, it's dominant over the next on the chart, over the next, etc. The only way you can get the least common one on the chart (the lowest in the gene) to show, is to inherit from both parents that same gene.

Mmkay. ^^

Personally, I think the blues/oranges should be common, purples/yellows in the middle, and greens/reds rare. That's my crazy thinking xD

So if blue was C1, purple was C2, and green was C3, then you could get:

C1C1
C1C2
C1C3
C2C2
C2C3
C3C3

...but never C3C2, C2C1, etc.

The only problem is that this whole revamp of everything would require me changing every single genetic code ever. x_x Which actually isn't that many, but it's still going to be a bit of a hassle.

Maybe just change the ones for the folks who ask, and if the others show up later to breed, you can tidy them up as you go?

Yeah, I think that'd be better. ^^

I've uploaded the revamped genetics page with the new style of genetics:

http://www.mysticalplace.com/sindri/information.html

Could I ask you guys to proofread that, and let me know what you think? =) That was a lot simpler than I thought it would be.

Dray and Shard, since your Sindri are paged, I'll PM you the new genetic codes. Mmkay? :D

Yay - that looks perfect :) It really doesn't matter whether there's a gene on the left or right, when you have a dominant-recessive pair. Only the gene itself that's dominant, C1 over C3 or whatnot -

C1C3 is the same as C3C1, the only reason I mix mine up is so that you can kinda tell which parent it came from. (that's important for my Ferilons, not so much in this case.)

I do that too, Starburst. XD If I see gene sets 'out of order' I obsessively have to go through and correct them all. I'll update my Sindri shortly! :3

See I'm soooo the opposite. I see gene pairs and I think "mom gene" "dad gene". :) Putting them in a new order does the same thing for me that having them not numeric does for you lol.

See now that's a good way to help trace lineage back, though, so it's a good method! XD It helps make your 4-somes of Ferilons less '1st is plain, 4th is super-mutant', too! Speaking of which... *points to the ferilon breeders board* :D There's a bit more activity going on there now! I just (attempted to do) another breeding, and I'll be listing the pups I have available for adoption pretty quick here!

No problem ^^ Just get back to me whenever they're paged.

I've edited your Sindri's genetic codes so they comply with the new format. Be sure you update them if you already copied the old ones down! :D

Out of curiosity, did you update everyone's with the new code? Or just those who've been in here talking about it?

*is getting ready to page mine, and want to be sure I have the correct genetic code - including for my birthday boy XD*
