Twisted Fate - 06 Psuedo-Hatching

Hahaha! Oh my goodness, Phee, I love you. <3 That was probably the most amazing hatching net to the Apocalypse for a long time. Or for less than precious. I could envision the entire thing in my mind with this wonderful freakiness~ I could <i>hear</i> the Red Demon, and that was delicious~
Not to mention Muhalif is beyond words of awesome. *__* Haha, Licyn~ Only I think he'll be perversely pleased his bond isn't going to compete for what Licyn himself wants. He doesn't share well... Oh Muhalif, with your, "My Father... He was beautiful, was he not?" I think I was squirming in glee. *__*
Oh the wonderful story ideas! Hahaha, writing~

Glee~ I think Garez will fit in quite well at Darkling Dawn, actually. I might even write up that plot I've been thinking of since I learned how powerful the Balespawn were.
Darkling Dawn: Fauna Frenzy Open to candidates; flights open to males/females; rukel eggs/breedings available.
Drockh-Tallahn Castle: 3 eggs, 2 available. Females and males needed.
Sgiath Wolfkeep: 7 pups available
Sedona Weyr: 12 eggs, Deadline March 8. Chasers and a female needed.

Thankee, thankee, thankee. <3 That was the most fun hatching to write, ever, and I'm glad people found it fun and creepy and not...purple prose-y or corny or anything like that. <3 I'm very happy with it.
And yes, the unmade ones survived. Technically. Just more shadows to lurk about the ship and remind others what "surviving" the Demon tends to entail. Those pairs who came out of the hatching with only emotional scars are very, very lucky. :)
I can't imagine a greater compliment. X3 ::wrigglesquirmglee:: <3Rachael wrote:Hahaha! Eeehehee...! That was -awesome!- I squealed when I saw it'd hatched, and then Xaoc... zomg, PERFECT.
(I'm not sure if I wrote anything which led you to give Fox a female bond, but it couldn't be more perfect. Of course, she and Bethazmaveth will have to have it out... somehow... *isn't about to horribly mutate her Kirintor Queen*)
And I can hardly wait to see what the Rune-branding actually -looks- like.
Xaoc can be found in the space prepared for her on the stats page, here: http://www.geocities.com/shadowsiders/w ... Stats.html and I will inform you if, no, probably -when- she moves to her own page.

If you catch me on AIM (thecrazytiger) please send me a quick note and remind me your name on there. It has been so long since I used that chat medium, I'm staring blankly at my list and not knowing who's actually there. >.<

Oh boy did I ever have fun writing this:
Schadenfreude: http://www.moon-struck.net/draco_prime/ ... haden.html
Storybit:

Both are linked from the original stats and story as well.
I love being completely irreverent *snerk*

XD Oh, Bill. He's so wonderfully blasse about it all. <3
Licyn's storybit is far less entertaining, but Muhalif is up and linked to Licyn;s page:

Well I don't know about you, but I found the wordchoice there pretty effing funny. Accurate, and funny. XD I cackled....leaving him on his ass in the midst of what had been one of the Balespawn before the Demon had decided it was not.
And now, after these two storybits, I have a question for folkses.
What are your thoughts on that style of hatching story? Where, rather than go through candidate by candidate and giving each one an individual blurb, all I give you is a sentence or two from the dragon, leaving it up to you how the hatching *really* went for your character?
Doing it that way this time around certainly made the hatching...well, actually not easier, since it only traded one challenge for another, and yet actually easier, because I didn't have to try and guess how each candidate would actually react. It would suck if I got it wrong, and I know it can be annoying to see your character act totally the wrong way in a hatching.
Of course, the presence of the Demon in this story gave something to motivate the hatching beyond the usual sequence of pick-and-choose, and I can imagine hatchings that lacked such a "plot" to be quite dull--but would it be better than the sometimes-tedium of one interaction after another? I'm afraid to read over any of the Destiny's old hatchings. I fear I'll find I've started to repeat myself. :P
But with the fact that I provide personalities for the dragons I give out, does that--combined with a short brainfodder quote--alleviate the need to do individual blurbs to show how a dragon acts?
Muse muse, ponder ponder.
My long deadlines are set as they are because I fear burning out, not on the art, but on the writing--and on the hatchings more than the personalities, as 1) there tends to be more inspiration for short personalities and 2) I have a wonderful assistant who I've never properly recognized who loves to help me out when my brain goes poit. (And that would be Gayle. Hiiiiiiii, Gayle. <3)
I wonder if I could speed things up--not by much, just drop it to two weeks between my alternating clutches rather than three--so I can get to neat arts sooner if lowered my own writing demands upon myself. Then people who are interested in later clutches don't have to wait so long, either. Sometimes that first moment of "ooooo!" inspiration isn't quite so shiny if you have to pick it up again several months later and try to wipe the dust off of it, non?
And since this post got waaaaay longer than I thought (woo, ramble) I'll repeat myself for the skimmers:
The Query) What are your thoughts on hatchings that are plot-driven and/or summarized, with personalities and brainfodder quotes given for the dragons, that forgo the usual individual bonding sequences and instead give *you* the reins to decide how that first interaction between candidate and dragon really went?
Obviously this clutch went over well, since with the Demon scampering about there was plenty for people to cater their own response to, but what about in general, for hatchings that are not nearly so eventful?

-hugs- Honestly, I can relate to that. XP And I've only written one full hatching story.
I'll take a personality description over an in-story blurb any day, and you already provide those. :3 I don't mind vague hatching stories at all. XP And actually, I kind of like the idea where you tell us what the hatchling did/said with the pickup. It's more familiar to me, at least. :3
Do what you need to. :3 That way, you don't drive yourself insane. -hugglegnaw-

Hiiiiiiiiii : D :: loves on ::
I'd rather you not speed up too much, myself ;.; My problem is not with hatching story format-- though I like both formats, in that I love plot-driven stories like this one, and I also love a little guidelines for the hatchling bond.... XD Though maybe hatching statements could make up for that, that certainly does give a good impression of how the bonding came about.... So I suppose if you still did that, that'd be plenty of guideline for me : )
My only real problem is, if you sped up too much, your nice candie-writers might not be able to keep up.... XD I know I, at least, would have trouble keeping up with things going too much faster, at least once I get back into the whole "full-time-job" thing >.>
... though I suppose I could just not insist on trying to adopt from every single one of your clutches, or something XD What a novel concept!
But yeah, that'd my only concern, and I might be the only one who feels like that? ^^ If so, feel free to go with the majority rule X3

The stupidest smart person you ever met.
Hee, I'm glad you cackled. I think I killed myself with the fat kid for McDonalds bit, because the juxtaposition of that image to the Demon at slaughter? *snerk*
I enjoy both ways. I love being able to entirely write out of the blue, and I love having names dropped randomly. Actually, astoundingly, I care less for the hatching blurbs than hearing some random mention of my character doing... anything. Why? 'Cause it's like a treasure hunt~ and can't wait to see what my story prize is. ;D
I say in plot-able things, like, say, I'd be amused to all reckonings with Ninjouzata having some sort of ... statement on the glory of the xenos in a few weeks; but that's me.
When you have story inspiration, I prefer that to having names listed off and bonding moments described. Those are fun, but it's also fun if say, Daddy went off his rocker and tried killing all progeny for the sake of pride and the mass of candidates had to go on a saving spree. /random
Which is a winding way to say I love both ways; when I have something to write from. As long as there is something I can reference, it's awesome whatever format!

(Dray, writing from Kat's computer again and forgetting to log out! Hurr!)
You know that with a name like the one you gave my Balespawn, Phe, that I can't resist renaming the city to which she'll be migrating. XD
That story was incredibly awesome! Kudos to you for it! I only hope that I can do a rewrite justice, man. :33 *handclaps* X3
Edit: I noticed that you didn't mention magical... well, anything non-physical within the realm of a Balechild's corruption. It can corrupt anything physically, then, but cannot warp a spell? You said that spirits, ghosts, etc. are immune to the corruption so I'm assuming that an incantation or whatever other kind of magic that's set into motion is similarly untouchable? (XD Not that it would have an effect if it were an attack, of course, but I'm just curious.)

Thanks to everybody who's shared their thoughts so far. I'm just trying to find a way to balance all the things I want to be able to do with my agencies. 1) Move clutches at a tolerable pace, 2) Write hatching stories that don't drive me crazy, and 3) Give people *something* that recognizes their character and gives them something to respond to. Currently that seems to be either plothatching+brainfodder or the usual bonding-blurbs.
More and more lately, though, the bonding-blurbs have bothered me. They disrupt the flow of the hatching to me. They almost feel too orderly, like they don't convey the sense that some of those bondings should be happening simultaneously.
But at the same time I know I love finding my characters' mentions in *their* bonding-stories, too, so it's all...what to do, what to do? XD
I'm finding myself thinking of the way Nicole does *her* hatchings. She has an overall story, but then on the pickup page each candidate gets a personal blurb that only details what they sense/see in regards to the dragon. I wonder if that would be a compromise. Then I can give each candidate brainfodder in more than just a quote, and can focus more on how the dragon acts and worry less about conveying the candidate correctly.
They key powers of Balespawn are that of corruption. They can consciously twist and warp almost anything around them, from flesh, to metal, to magical energies. Being the children of a goddess, they are vastly powerful and incredibly creative in this capacity.
The way I see it: if it's physical or has a physical effect, a Balespawn can warp it. They can't warp true spirits, because it doesn't have a physical form. Considering that, I believe they are vulnerable to spiritual attacks and psionic ones--provided the one initiating the attack stays faaaaaaaar out of the Balespawn's range!
Shadowmind Rune-Brand, anyone? X3 Though that'd only negate psionic weaknesses.

-claps- that's exactly what I aws thinking of, actually, when I wrote my post. :3 nicole's pickups.
They remind me of the roleplay M*'s, becuase when you bond you get that sort of second-person blurb. And hten you get a massive Inspiration, if you're on the games that tend to give them, but that's way too long for nexus. >.>
but yeah, that's a good compromise. Or, if it comes down to it, ask who /really really/ wants that sort of hatching blurb and write it only for them, and do what you want with the rest. :3

Mwahahahaaaa.....I shall make with the uber plottage....and Phe, I can't thank you enough. Zouo and Ereshkigal are quite the pair....each wanting to exert total dominion over the other. XD Oh man, the stories.... XD

'Epic' is most concisely defined as something that, were you to do it in view of a person in real life, they'd pretty much have to sleep with you immediately to maintain order in the universe.
I sneezed. It seems to have reshaped reality. My bad.
