IE 7 is EVIL!

Post by Banned User »

A random outburst but if anyone else has IE 7, I don't think it will run my pages right. You can't get to the menus correctly as you click, say, 'Hatching Sands' and the menu appaers in the top rather then the side. The links from there work so I don't know what the problem is. Just a warning - best viewed in Firefox now, I guess! *smacks Explorer* You were once my favorite and now I demote you to the rank of 'Stupid Browser'! DIE!

Hmm...well, can you visit Falas Weyr for me and tell me if the menus appear where they're suppose to? If they do, then it's just my computer...

Hmm...well, on a brighter note, IE 7 supports transparent PNG's. I'm just going to uninstall the stupid thing 'cause I don't know how to fix my issue with my pages. I don't know if they are working in IE7 for other people but I browse the web with Firefox anyway...it is kinda nice that the PNG's work in IE7, though...heh.

Well, I have no idea how your site is supposed to look anyways, so I can't tell you if IE won't display it right.

Site looks just fine in Firefox, Yakima--top menus at the top, side-menus at the left. *makes a 'bon!' french-mouth-poppy-noise* X3 All systems go, cap'n!

In Safari, the only thing that isn't giving me a side menu is 'Weyr Bowl', and the header for the sidemenu of 'Hatching Grounds' seems a little off, but the rest work!

I know the sites work in Firefox and I'm pretty sure that they've worked in the other browsers out there. IE7 is not reading the scripting right because the developers changed something so that web designers have to use certian scripts or something. I think it has something to do with the mouseover effect - I'm going to redownload IE7 (mostly to shut up the Windows Update), and see if i have to delete my precious mouseovers in the menu bar. I want people to be able to view my sites decently no matter the browser they use. And now that IE7 supports PNGs I would hate to get ride of it. I don't like the set up but I only use it for page building. Firefox is my browsing one...heh...

*wanders off to either work on NaNo (33K already...and still now sure if Word is counting right or I'm just a fast typer........*facepalm* :D This only means I can slack off a bit and watch Full Metal Alchemist more...heeeheee), or my friend/manager's slideshow of her wedding or...more Ed and Al and Roy Mustang...oh...*slumps and waits for download*

Well, all I know is firefox is one big trojan (No, not how you're thinking you dirty dirty minds). It has several biult in protocols that allows lots of programmers with even the most basic coding skills to upload and gain access. data miners and the like.

Er, where did you hear that, Graeth? That's hardly how I see it - in fact quite the opposite. It's one of the safest programs out there. I've never had a virus or spyware download itself onto my computer in the 2 + years I've been running it, because it blocks access to things.

I brought down the entire City of Phoenix's network. Civil, judicial, law enforcement, sanitation and accounting networks were corrupted and wiped. My dad was part of the team that backtracked the coruption. They took firefox apart at the molecular level and found all the problems with it. So now, IE is mandatory and firefox is banned.

That seems rather unlikely.

For starters, ALL browsers have basic protocols to allow uploading and such. Otherwise, FTP would not work. Photobucket would not work. Sending attachments by Hotmail would not work. You get the idea.

Those protocols are not inherently insecure. If your network wasn't set up properly, then someone could get in regardless of which browser you're using. Someone using Firefox on your systems probably installed an unofficial, corrupt plugin. Or just plain downloaded a trojan.

And well, to be honest, millions of people use Firefox these days, and if it was really so insecure, I'm pretty sure it would be common knowledge by now. If it has a flaw that any idiot can get through, then a huge quantity of idiots would be doing so, and everyone would know about it.

Ultimately, if you had a trojan on your network, it was probably some idiot who wasn't being careful about what they downloaded, and then later tried to blame it on the insecure browser. Just because a popup comes up saying 'install this' doesn't mean you should. Even with the most secure browser, some common sense is still required.

I'd find it almost impossible to believe that IE is 'mandatory' except for that people are idiots. IE has and is probably always going to be the worst most easily corrupted piece of shit ever written by Microsoft. I didn't used to have problems with it, but then I think it was 5 or 6 came out and I got not only my first viruses but my very first Bluescreen of Death from IT.

I went out and got firefox, and have never looked back. The problem with 'finding lots of security issues' is that they exist in every program. IE has probably hundreds more, but the technicians using the network there probably were Microsoft Certified. Therefore: only know how to use one browser properly.

I just don't think that it's anywhere near realistic to think that FF caused that problem, knowing that I've been using it safely for 2 years and it's actually progressed enough that it is rivalling use by IE.

O_o Speaking of problems with net browsers, I think my Firefox somehow got buggered.

Have any of you had any problems where certain letters were made very tiny, seemingly at random in a body of text read in Firefox?

As a mac user I've never gotten a virus of any kind before, so I'm really at a loss as to where to start looking on this. It's not really debilitating, just kind of annoying, and I'd like to get it fixed.

-points- yes, that's happened to me before! but i think it's becuase i pressed a wierd button or something.

Firefox did kill my computer, but that's becuase my computer is unstable, not anything that firefox did to my computer. >.> it just.. kept freezing.a nd then taking a long time to start. so then i got ntescape and the same thing happened ventually. Hense my current infatuation with opera.

I... suppose I could switch to Safari, which is what my computer came with... but honestly, it's hideous, clumsy, and takes up so much space where Firefox has nice tabs and has worked perfectly for me, aside from the incident I just posted about. XD I guess I'll wait to see how this goes.

>.> restarting my computer always helped with tinyfonts? :3 but yeah.

what is safari, anyway? I've never heard of it. If mozzy does give out on you though, i reccomend opera or netscape-- netscape cuz it has a password and tabs, and opera becuase it's just badass. :3 I *heart* opera.

For Yakima: I just installed IE 7 on my husband's desktop, and it is doing the same thing you described, so I guess it is IE 7, not something with your system :/

Whenever we get a question in my department at work (manufacturing industrial computers and making custom software by the way) that involves 'why isn't this working' - the answer is ALWAYS - Microsoft sucks. Thing is, sometimes that's way more true than others... :)

Well, good news is I found the problem - I need to tell the browser specifically which frame to send the page to. I had a single line telling it before which worked but IE7 is just a bit picker. And now that I found out what the problem was I feel like an idot. I should have done that before hand anyway - I was just a lazy page designer.

As for which browser is best - one, it's all opionion and I use Firefox and IE. Firefox is the one I browse the internet with. I even asked the people who fixed my computer and they said there was no definate best browser. *shrug* I only got Firefox 'cause Shard (and a handful of other people) suggested it. I only keep IE around because I can hit 'Edit in Notepad' easier then in Firefox - I don't feel like right clicking on every page I want to edit each time. For me, IE makes designing my pages easier...unless it has a fit like IE7 did. *smacks it* But, were happy now - and it uses transparent PNG's! Yaya! No more wondering what it will look like in Firefox. Ha! *scampers off to do some more NaNoWriMo as Full Metal Alchemist too up all my time this weekent* :P
