That's a neat idea, but it would leave people like me out in the cold~ I'm a newbie, so i don't have any still-running clutches, and i tend to hatch clutches regardless of whether they fill or not. andi'mbadatwriting, so i never liked hte NaNoWriMo. XP But yeah, i get your drift.
Something like that would be good, but maybe just a clutch-limit or something rather than a none at all thing?
:d I'll save my thoughts for when someone puts it up on the boardy.

Perhaps there could be something for the non-writers to do, like work on web design, or newer, better templates or something like that? I dunno. I think it's an awesome idea especially for the clutches I have candidates at (and even a few that I don't) that I want to see haaaatch
Speaking of, Ty, I'm still planning on spamming you with candidates at some point. But I've been horribly busy with school :-/

-nodrolls- I am not one for writing. Maybe it could be something that people inclined towards writing sign up for? or maybe put a hiatus type thing on formal clutches, since that would pull candidates away from the clutches that are trying to be filled, and leave it at giveaways for a month? or maybe half a month or a few weeks or something, so it's not as long.
._. hmm. I would send candidates to older clutches anyway, if i was promised that they would hatch and i knew which ones are still open~ I dunno what's open from before i came to nexus. ^^; stories would be a problem, since in general i regard writing stories as being about as enemas, but I could manage~

It is hard to know which of the older clutches are still actually running, especially when they're being run by people that aren't actually on these forums very much? I dunno about anyone else, but I kinda judge which clutches are actually open and likely to hatch sooner rather than later by how often I see the person running the clutch here? If that makes sense?
Annnd... I have writer's block this time of year. I wish NaNoWriMo was run in a different month... November is my least favourite month of the year, because it's the run up to Christmas and it's the beginning of winter while I'm still not acclimatised to the changes in the weather... I get really depressed in November, which means no writing. No Candidates and no NaNoWriMo... I'd be up for a writing month maybe... next March or so?

But it seems like the people who do like to write are dying out due to the over-accomodations towards people who don't ... I don't mean to sound cruel or anything, but that just seems to be like how it is going. We could still do it but require people to sign up and those who don't want to do it could have something else going on that month :-/ I don't know it just feels like no matter what, one "side" has to bend over backwards for the others, and nobody's considering a copmpromise. Perhaps the artists could hold giant clutches for the writers who are supposed to be writing all month, I don't know

-thinks about that- Hmm. I'm not /that/ into much of anything, but i tend to be fairly neutral on the subject and I think it looks about even. Of course, that just could be because I don't herald from an era on nexus where almost everything was story writing. :/ I cano nly thing of a few people who are ART-ONLY type people, and i think the story-writing people are still going strong. -shrugglies- the whole dragonswapping thing has evened the playing field, so now only-artists can get in on the game in some places, but yeah.
ha, i prolly don't know what i'm talking about. poiint- from my postition, it looks about there are equal numbers of people of either preference, and most of them overlap when it comes to stats candidates.

Yeah there are people who are still willing, to be sure, but the problem as I see it is that for a writer one of two things happens: Either the agency doesn't require a story, and usually it doesn't take as long to do a stats sheet or fill out a give-away form, then the writers will take too long and the clutch will fill up before they have a chance. Or, if the clutch requires a story, then it will take longer to fill, but there aren't quite enough people willing to put in the time to write a story so then it will take TOO long to fill, and the poor candidates will wait on the sands until they're no longer interesting to the writer and plot devices they were critical parts of have gone on and happened without them. Of course places that require stories but have deadlines are a good solution to this but even then many people can't get candidates in by the deadline. *ponders* It's a pickle, that it is.
Oh and I'm sorry if I sound like "Writers are uber and everyone else is teh suck" ... I don't feel that way at all! I personally find that my writing is much more quality than my art, but I know a lot of people are the opposite, and if we didn't have all the awesome artists then we would have no Nexus (or we'd have the dragon adoption community of the late 90's when you were a "good" artist if your dragons vaguely resembled a dragon *snerk*). I just happen to cling to my writing heritage because I know if it weren't for dragoning nobody would ever bother to read the drivel I have the nerve to put to paper ... and that would be sad
Although with some stories, I spend hours hiding under the table thinking "I can't believe I put that on the INTERNET, for people to READ *dies of embarassment*"

Hee, i have that problem with stories i've written the day before. >.> which is another reason i don't write stories. I have enough reasons to fill a book, byt yes. i look back on it a day later and then blush and whine at the thought that i sent something that crappy out. X.x but then i remember how long i spent on it and dun wanna change it~~ -roll- ah, the problem with any kinda art.
i like your dragons~ -pokes astra- but i've noticed that too~ I have trouble getting candidate for my clutches, and i don't even require a detailed stats sheet~~ -dies- that's why i stopped doing npc's for clutches i didn't draw-- more incentive. or something. but then, like ty said, there's a candidate drought~
I also have had trouble with stories, too~ X.x My take on them is that if you get them in after the deadline, more power to you~ ^^; i look to stats mostly, anyway, for personality cues. or something.
but i ramble~
one thing though-
I know it doesn't look it, but my candidate sheets take AGES. X.x eventhereallysimpleones. and they really shouldn't. ^^; i shouldlearnhowtowrite.
but yes. kittens~
sorry for the spam, tygryph~ we probably should've made another forum somewhere

It would be nice if artist-types could hold some clutches for less amount of writing, like, put a cap on the amount of writing that can be sent in (I know Kat's planning that for the super-secret clutch she's about to launch! >:D)
Perhaps we could pick a month where writers can send in short-stories (or long ones, if they really want to), and artists can do some dragon-trading like Shiolar's started up?
People who like to do both can send in their short-shorts of writing and doodle however much they want, without feeling conflicted?

Just a thought (somewhat off-topic because honestly, whatever you guys decide I probably won't do, because I hate people dictating when I 'have' to draw or 'have' to write, since I do either one when I feel inspired to) --
Ty, you could run a flurry based on the candidates you get rather than the pairings you get! :3
Like, start asking for Flurry candidates (or sponsors, etc) and auditioners at the same time. You could have a definite deadline, and for each candidate you recieve, draw one more offspring from some pairing or other (not necessarily FOR that candidate, you could match candidates to dragons after the deadline). Then you'd have an exact number of candidates and dragons precisely when the deadline hit (or shortly thereafter, we all know that last-minute candidate rush), WITHOUT having to beg for more candidates to fill a pre-alloted deadline.
The catch would be that a flight story might be impossible this way, as you couldn't tell us all the pairings that happened until after the deadline when you'd drawn all the offspring you had to. XD
Just a thought. :3 Make life easier for you.
On this note, really, people! X3 There are ways of dealing with this supposed 'candidate defecit'. Like the above-mentioned, like mellowing out and not minding if a clutch takes six months to fill, like having smaller cluctches. You can do whatever you want, but don't let the times get you down -- this is all supposed to be fun, remember?

Hee, sorry astra~ XP I didn't know that mine were longer than stories, actually. ._. you f'serious, or did you just say that?
and hee, i like that cap idea. Or just.. letting people do whatever they want? that's what i do. Compromises in general are always good.
Hee, but now i'm rambling. I'll just be interestedin seeing where this is going~ just.. don't make anything /too/ strict?
-wriggles around happily- kittens.

The cap idea would be a good idea, but I agree with Kat ... some of my best stories are also my longest. Having a length limit would make it less like writing a candidate and more like, I don't know, a college admissions essay.
*dreads cutting down her long winded internship essay to a mere 250 words*

Kat, that's... a really good idea, actually XD Work it more like a synth, where you don't have a set number of spots to fill.... Then there's no way to not get enough candidates in.
I do sympathize for the "taking six months for a clutch to fill" problem, though. Makes plotting for that character difficult, makes you lose interest in the character and/or plot, etc.... For a writer who wants to continue the plot after the hatching, it's like commiting murder on inspiration XD And I can't imagine what it does to the people responsible for drawing them, too: don't you people get bored and disinterested, too, waiting for someone to come adopt your images? XD Smaller clutch sizes, or deadline-vs-clutch-size, are good ways to get around that for both sides, though, I'd think....

The stupidest smart person you ever met.
Yeah, that's an awesome idea. That's sort of what I try to do, have a set deadline, but I don't require a story, so those who write know how long they have and dont have to constantly panic about the clutch filling, and and those who don't write can send as many stat sheets or request forms as they want, and nobody has to worry about the clutch taking forever. Of course Kacie's clutch is taking forever anyway but blame data structures class for that. I was actually working on the hatching this morning! ... and then I had to go to astronomy. But I haven't abandoned it ... But back to topic, I like Jkats idea and deadlines as well. They are wootful.
Hey guys? Along the lines of having a writer's month, how about something like this:
For those who want to partcipate, there are three sections. First, agencies are invited to put their clutches (the clutch owner will have to announce themselves, this way we can ensure that the clutch will hatch sometime in the near future! The clutch will also have to be from before the start of the writer's week/month, hopefully one that's been waiting for candidates for some time.) Once we have a set number of agencies signed up (maybe five, or ten or so if people would like more places to send in to!) we set the challenge for writers.
Writers must send at least one candidate to each agency that's signed up. They can send more (if the agency allows it!) but to 'win', they must send at least one storied/stats paged candidate to each place.
In the meantime, artists can draw templates as much as they like, but to encourage the writers to do their thing, templates should be traded for other templates. Artists may /also/ sign up to draw a special template to give away as a prize to writers who send a candidate to all of the signed up clutches--so those who send in candidates will also recieve bonus dragons!
Of course, people who both write and draw can participate in either side of things if they like, and those who don't sign up for this can continue going on the way they have been.
Does that sound like fun to you guys?

Hey, no matter what happens, I, for one, will be looking to get as many Everrealm critters as I can.

Exactly what JKat said, Myr'! If you want to keep doing giveaways, nobody's going to tie your hands down. X3 It would be more of a 'sign up if you want to' sort of deal. Just for fun.
I was thinking, time-wise, it might be better to start it up either in January or after April... for me at least that would be best. In January I'm only starting classes so the course-load isn't so heavy, while I finish classes around the end of April, and have 'free time' after that because I'm into the summer. X3 I dunno what other people prefer, if they'd rather do it right away or wait a while, but if nobody wants to work it differently, I'll probably put a notice up around the end of December for people to enter their adoption agencies.

I'd prefer not January myself. UK tax deadline is 31st January, which means I often have a heavy workload that month. Finishing off tax stuff for all those silly people who leave it til the last minute... It depends how many there are this year, but I make a point of not making any plans for January, since 75% of the time I end up having to do a lot of overtime. Still, if everyone is in favour of January, don't worry about me.
I would prefer sometime closer to summer, myself. But really, it wouldn't be too much of a problem at any time of year. 'cept for November. NaNo, you know.
