I'm not too concerned with not having CS, anyway. I didn't much care for Photoshop at all, but given what Yakima can do with 7, I think I'll give 7 another chance to prove itself to me. If Photoshop 7 and PSP 9 can get along, they can both be installed on my computer...

CS just sucks. I've only ever used Photoshop, though I do have to try out psp. I had it once before, but an aancient version and I couldn't figure it out for the life of me.
7 was godlike, though. I think it even had a feature to seperate hand-drawn lineart out, though i forgot how.

I have CS ... I don't really see what's wrong with it to be honest as far as I can tell it's exactly like 7. Maybe I'm too retarded to tell the difference lol. I also have photoshop elements 2.0 which is what I had before CS and that's really all I need for most purposes but CS is very nice for all the layer effects and such. Really the entire reason I bought elements was because I wanted the lens flare filter. That is what sold me on it

I tried to make a shimmer Gecnawan but it was laughably bad so I won't post it :P

..yeah, that is a nice filter~ It makes things pretty~
My elements came with my tablet. IT's better then nothing, i suppose, but I still hate it with a fiery passion.
And from what I remember, CS always struck me as being trestres different from 7. For one because they changed around a lot of things, and you can't do that lineart thing anymore. but then again, it's been years~

I tried doing a shimmery triowing Danachian... He was supposed to be copper...

Image

The problem is my shading... Usually my shading layer is on the normal setting, but that looked odd, so I tried overlay, and the result was this guy looking a bit like he's been set on fire...

It looks okay... I'm not happy with the shading, though... Like, the fact that there isn't really any now... Obviously, I need to refine my shading technique a little...

Sometimes you need to do a more grayish version of a color when using an overlay layer unless you're aiming for fire. I sometimes have to add layers of the overlay shading (duplicate, I mean), so that the shading is visable.

Sorry, I have replied to anyone. Been busy. I'll try your idea Dray, though I do have about 10+ templates to do. I also intend to see what it looks like with the filter effect and the burn/dodge layers so you can see the shading. Not too sure how much I'll like the glassy look but we'll see...:P

Also, Yakima hurt her wrist at work so drawing and even typing kinda hurts so until my right hand feels better *winces as she types*, I may not be able to do a lot. It's not really bad but it still hurts constantly and the constant pain is what is starting to annoy me. That and I think a week should have ended it. I think I pulled a tendon or something...grrr...anyway, thanks for the ideas! For those of you that tried it, you need to really play with the settings sometimes to get the shimmer effect lined up nicly with the template. No template uses the same settings....hee...

I'll try doing some duplicate shading layers to see how that affects it... my shading is already in grayscale... I'm sure if I keep playing with it, I'll stumble across exactly the right method soon enough...

Glad you like it though, JKat... It did rather turn out better than I expected, despite the fiery-ness...

Okay, so I tried the normal white layer and I didn't get it to work how I wanted it to. However, I did go into Photoshop and play with the filter again and adjusted it to make it 'softer'...I like this version better...

It's a... well, it's a Type 2 Bonder Daemon times something. X3 I don't remember what exactly. An example of a t2 Bonder: http://www.geocities.com/sunrise_twilig ... tspark.htm

As for the black lines... goodness knows. X3 It's kind of a habit that seems to have spread about the Nexus-artists. I think it separates the art from the background its eventually placed on, which is handy if the background colors and dragon colors clash -- there's not so much of an eyesore clash with the thick black surrounding the creature.

Yeah, Deamon Type 2 and an oriental mutt: Multra Kiona is the mother and Jatansyal is the father...:D

Yeah, the black lines make it easier to turn into a transparent gif if needed. Most of the Shimmer Frenzy ones are probably going to be pngs due to color info. But yeah...pretty much what Kat said. :D

The thicker outline also helps when a person is deleting the background, that way there's more black space between the white background and the creature to delete without going into the coloured parts, and there's less chance of making one of those gross fuzzy halos. ^^;

Personally, I've never had any trouble with removing backgrounds and such while using thin or non-existant outlines... But that's probably more because of how I use layers more than anything else...

Anyway, I redid the shimmery copper trio-wing. I think he looks better now... I lowered the opacity of the shimmer effect so it doesn't completely drown out the shading...

The trio-wings will be in a giveaway as soon as I'm done colouring... I've not got any immediate plans to do any shimmery ones, but I'm sure something could be arranged.

Alright, I finally found a few minutes to sit down and get myself a Yousendit account. Does anyone still:

a) Need PS:CS?

b) Need advice on how to make it work? (I did. It's complicated and yet stupidly simple)

-.- It'll take three hours to send, so have patience. One (or more) of my family members may try to close it before it's done. Which means I'll have to start all over again tomorrow.
