Erm, Yes. I'm new here. Obcviously.
I've been watching these image-weyr-things for ages, but whenever i stumbled onto them, they were dead and inactive. When i had opportunities to join, I found myself too ignorant to comprehend anything and the terms and whatnot. O___. But then I found this. And while I still have little idea what the shard is going on, I do want to get involved. I've been roleplaying pern for ages, and as soon as I discovered these weyrs, i was struck by the urge to find some way to atleast attempt to stick my head in. woof.
So, er. Is there somewhere I can go for information on how the general whole of these work? I know each place has different rules, but everywhere seems to use the words bonder and sponser, and have a different meaning for htem. And also, I've gathered that these are on different worlds and there are different species of dragon than the pernese sort, but I'm not too certain how exactly they tie into one another.

Greetings from the abyss and welcome to the Nexus. My name is Mystic and I'll try to answer your questions as best I can.
What we are is a group of writers and artists interested in dragons. Yes, we mostly operate from seperate worlds. The Pern RPs that you're likely used to employed one type of dragon and one type of bonding process (bonders, candidates, standers, hopefuls, etc. They all mean people wanting to Impress a dragon). However, we found that a little too constricting and opted to move away from Pern. What's left of Pern is often called the Old World now. There are still plenty of Weyrs around, but you'll find they've changed from the traditional five colours.
The Nexus is a collection of worlds brought together by the teleportation ability of dragons. Candidates, pets, and dragon species are exchanged between the worlds to expand that world's versitility. For example, someone born on Avengaea doesn't necessarily have to bond an Avengaean dragon. Often they can be found by local Search Riders and whisked away to another world to bond. Once they have their spiffy new dragon, they return to their homeworld and join the dragon agency established there.
Each world /does/ have its own set of rules for bonding to their dragons. Every time a candidate is sent off-world, the mun must be sure to read over the rules to ensure that their candidate will be accepted at the place they want to submit them to. It can be somewhat time consuming, but the end result is worth it.
Through interworld breeding programs (ie. flights, frenzies, flurries, and genetic experiments), dragon breeds have started mixing. There are now very diverse bloodlines floating around the Nexus, and some of them are quite famous.
My suggestion to you is to look through the various agencies we have to offer and try to get a feel for how we operate. You'll need to set up your own site; based either on a world of your creation or one of the communal ones (the Old World, Danach, Icarus, or Alskyr). It's a little confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's great fun.

Yup - what she said! Head toward the database area, and start clicking. We've got a number of mostly-active members, and some who show up occasionally. There *are* currently a few still Pern-based weyrs running, by the way, so don't be afraid to ask about specifics and where you might send candidates if you're interested.

Most of my pern roleplays are noncanon, and i've gotten a bit crazy with them, but you're right, they have, in comparison to this, been a little bland. Had the new colours, sometimes the new races, sometimes even new worlds, though that was mostly only me mucking with that. >.> Thank you so much for the information though. >.> I have been looking around the weyrs and such, and i've gotten a good feel for some of the things.. there's just gaps, you know? We're not going to chew you out or anything for messing up. We were all new once ourselves. And we're definitely friendly; if you ask for help, trust me, everyone's going to jump right up there and offer their opinion or advice, so don't be scared to ask. Another thing I'd recomend is to read the stories other people have written. It really helps get a feel for what exactly people are looking for =]

All that's required for your world to become part of the Nexus is the ability for dragons to teleport, yes =] The only time you'd need to form a political alliance with another weyr or what-not is if you wanted to, because the way I see it, if they're part of the Nexus, then they're on good terms or semi-good terms anyways.
Other people's characters I'd recommend getting persomission for unless on their site it tells you that you can use it [sometimes on the rules page, they'll list some characters and their personalities for use in your story] but usually people are ok with it.

I run a Pernese Weyr (which I know you know about as you sent me a firelizard!
) which is strictly traditional colors unless the genes of the parents allow otherwise. My current/next clutch is only the five main colors, well, four because Mardanith dosn't lay gold eggs anymore. The FGPC (accromym for Falas Genetic Program Center), deals with the genetic alteration of the color gene for dragons and even fire lizards *smacks hand for forgetting to fix fire lizards*. There is a huge clutch (Frenzy), that the FGPC hopes will turn out a lot of Shimmered dragons (thus called the Shimmer Frenzy...). Not all are from Pern, and not all will be shimmered, however.
My other sites include Lantir-setia Island on Alskyr (the site is undergoing renovations and finishing of information and such...as well as redrawing images...*pets her gryphons*) which has dragons, gryphons and sea dragons. Treval City is my recent one which has an ongoing type of dragons there. And Alair WolfKeep has winged wolves, my signiture species, you could say...(my muse is one, after all....................*gets bricked by Segs*)
Me shut up and go work on Gen5 now.....
