Post by Skysong »

Hah hah, this was the best timing ever. I ordered my new computer about two days before I found out I didn't have a job anymore! And unfortunately by that time it was too late to cancel the order.. so here it is XD

I've never had my own computer before, and man is it awesome O_O I can do whatever I want to it and put whatever I want on it! Yay!

..sorry, just excited and wanted to share the excited with everyone XD I've been waiting for years to finally have a computer of my very own!

Gratz :D

Something I recommend installing... XD

Totally free, often updated, and just the best adware program I've ever had.

I also reccomend spystopperpro and Sygate personal firewall to be used in conjunction with Adaware.

Best defense I've ever had.
Of course, you gotta have norton or something as well.

And I'll recommend AVG Antivirus and Firefox. Coz if you have Firefox, you won't need the anti adware and spyware software.

Well, in the couple months since this was posted, my computer has become nice and secure XD I have a software and hardware firewall, several antivirus, spyware, and adware programs to keep the computer nice and tidy, and I use Firefox exclusively (now just have to get the boyfriend to stop using EI on my computer..). So far, so good!

Now I just need a new video card.. the integrated one so isn't cutting it ;____; Well, not that I really expected it to, but still.

Tis easy to stop people using Internet Explorer is to delete all the shortcuts to it. :)

You realise, too, that if you have a hardware firewall, you don't need a software one, and if you have Firefox, you don't need an adware and spyware stopper, and running more than one antivirus at a time only results in them interfering with each other so none of them really work properly. And having that much stuff all running in the background at the same time will only slow the whole system down and you'll have to reformat more often. If you got more than 5 icons running in the taskbar by your clock, you have too many.

*shrugs* I only have the one antivirus running at a time - when I'm feeling nervous about something, then I'll run scans in sequence. Having seen some of the awful stuff that happened to my old roomates's computer, I'm a member of the 'better safe than sorry' camp now.

Go ramtacular computer, go :O

Heh... and in comparison, I'm half tempted to get rid of AVG for taking up valuable system resources...

Oh, and a friend who was reading over my shoulder suggests that another way to stop someone using Internet Explorer is to find the file named iexplore.exe and rename it to something else. Then it doesn't work anymore.
