Digital Painting Experiment

I deicded it would be fun to get back into digital art since I haven't in forever so I drew this, experimenting with a couple of different styles. On a dolling message board a bunch of people were talking about how dolling improved their regular art, so I drew one of my characters, Katarena, the same way that I would have done a doll. Then I decided to make a background because backgrounds are coooool. The background was added after I drew Kat so that's why the light source is so baaaad and wrong. That and I never quite understood how to do light sources properly anyway. But yes, what do you think?

Ooooh, that dress is absolutely /gorgeous/! ^_^ I just love the shimmery effect on it!

With the lighting, it's usually best to start out with a direction(s) you want the light to be coming from, so you can put the shading and lighting in the appropriate places--or barring that, line up the background-lighting to match the figure. ^^; I haven't gotten the hang of that yet, but I know that that's the general principle behind it...

I like the foliage, too, especially about her feet. <3 so pretty!

I just love the ray affect...or effect. Can't remember which one and I'm too lazy to look it up. I think its affect. Anyways, it's awesome.

Effect. Affect means to do something to something else. Think of: a special Effect, versus an event Affecting change.

Anyway yeah - I like it too! It could perhaps use a little softening of the highlights. Love the trees
