Okay, so I think it's time to start narrowing down the list. We don't want to make our artists kill themselves with awards. @.@ Are there any that look like they can be combined or removed out of similarity to others?

Not that I'd be qualified to judge or win anything, but yeah. I don't want to participate in an awards thing. I can see people getting their feelings hurt, even with a light, fun atmosphere. So yeah... have fun everyone, but I'll go ahead and be a stick in the mud. ^^;

You want a contest? Take a look at clutches, or giveaways, or anything that involves people putting in an effort to gain a prize of a limited quantity. We /enjoy/ those contests. Sometimes people miss out on a giveaway because there's not enough babies to go around. Yeah it's a little disappointing, but who cares? There's always going to be more.

As with this thing, do you SEE any catagories there that involve doing a lot of work to get a very specific and often sought after prize? Is there ANYTHING in that ENTIRE list that looks like it's going to make one person look better than another? There were two catagories that I mistakenly put in and they're gone now. I don't WANT a contest. I want a fun little game of giving out amusing sprite awards.

Yes, sprites.

"I Won the Happy Sunshiney Award" kind of thing. Stupid little badges that won't even have to be put up anywhere. It was just meant to show how crazy or how interesting our ideas can be. There's an award for eye-burniness, one for longest pedigree, one for being the oldest person here. Will it really matter if one person's neon-rainbow-heart-spattered dragon wins at the same time as someone else's cross-eyed-starry-metallic-rainbow dragon? I've already said that I'll take out the first, second, third thing. The awards will be given out on the basis of who YOU GUYS think deserves them.

It was supposed to be fun. It was supposed to make us laugh. However, I'm getting nothing but insulted replies. >.< I /know/ no one meant to be insulting (and nor do I for that matter) but I'm just a tch annoyed at everyone seeing "awards" and automatically assuming "OMG TEH INTRANET FIGHTZORS!"

So maybe this was a bad idea afterall. If that's the case then forget it. No more awards. That way I'm not running the risk of upsetting anyone with supposed contests.

I don't think the people who are asking to withdraw are personally insulting or attacking your idea. In fact, I don't think anyone said "Pull me out because I hate the idea" or something along that line ;}

I think it's fine to have your event, but you need to respect the feelings and wishes of the people who don't want to participate, without reacting to their polite requests by acting as though they're all personal attacks and flames on you.

There seems to still be enough people interested in the "awards". In fact, I think there's only a handful of people who HAVE asked to pull out, at least publically. No one seems to be saying "OMG TEH INTRANET FIGHTZORS!" at all :D

It's the constant comments that this is a contest that are getting to me. >.< Like I'd really want to pit people against each other in this community. I started it because I wanted to revive some interest, but it seems to be having the opposite effect.

Regardless, it's going to keep running. I'll be in contact with the artists and judges within a few days.

I would love it if it kept running! Awards are great, and even if one doesn't win, it's still fun. (I know - I've been there before.)

I didn't mean to make it sound like I was dropping this. That was never my intent. Likely my words came off as sounding differently and I'm sorry for that. If I /were/ to drop this thing, the thread would be deleted. I try to make my point clear whenever possible.

And I have no problem with people not wanting to participate, just so you guys know. It's fun for me, but it may not be fun for everyone else. I just felt that people were only dropping out because they hadn't understood the reason behind it.

And I was looking through the list and trying to figure out who would win - and cringed in 'fear' of a few that seemed to describe me.

*chuckles and wanders away* Though, I would have wanted to add "Most Changed Website Design' just for the heck of it...but that's because I change mine so much...heehee...You don't have to add that one, you have enough awards soo....

XD I think the list is long enough already. I might have to cut it down depending on how much you guys are willing to do. :P Though we could have some 'honorary' catagories such as that.

@Astra: :3 We all have our Mary Sues. I think that catagory is going to have LOTS of winners.

How about something like "Most psychotic character"... or "Character most in need of some therapy"... or even "Character that you would run away screaming at the very sight of"...

You know how everyone doesn't seem to keen on competing in and amongst ourselves? What about competing with various other cyber-adoption groups, somehow? The only one I /know/ of is the Orchard, but I'm sure that there must be others.

For one thing, it might encourage some curiosity between boards and the like. For another, a little friendly competition seems to really get groups spirited and really excited about what they're doing. (XD if my experience over the last couple of days is any indication with the dang hockey-team-fans storming the streets over a silly game!)

I'm not sure what the heck we could challenge other people with, it's just an amusing thought. (Not to hijack your thread, Mystic! It just seemed more pertinant to ramble about, here!)

The Crystal Palace is one forum that I used to frequent. It was more on the art side of things when I was there but it looks like it's been revamped A LOT since I was a member and there's a lot more adoptions and things going on. It's a thought

Exactly! XD And maybe something that involves giving images/gifts or whatever at the end, just to show that everything's good?

Of course, it could be that our agencies are pretty confusing to one another. Maybe the Nexus needs that big splash-page that Dev was talking about, before. I remember, a long time ago, I'd volunteered to try to write up a summary of what dragoning was about... but I'm not really sure how to go about it! XD

Well, Shard has some explanations we could link. What we need is a splash page, as you said, that states what /we/ are here for and where to find our agencies.

Exactly. Like... a quick, 100-word or so statement about what dragoning is about, and an explanation about how to do it. Then some active links (This will have to be maintained, since we know how often locations change! XD) and some history of the group, if people are interested?

Yep, I got about 60 gig free on my server that's not being used for anything right now. AND my faster internet connection is actually going live next week, so it's more feasible for me to run more sites on it. *shrugs*

I do too, I've been putting thought (for ages) into getting the Nexus its own whole site, or at least a domain name. Right now I'm kind of waiting for ... well, money, from my brother's estate. Once that happens and I know for sure how heavy a tax hit I'll be taking next year, I'll start discussions about whether we want to have a dedicated site we'd all be able to use, or something... (Says the grrl who's quit her job and has only a part time gig lined up, but is enjoying some time off aside from the legal craps...)

But it would be nice to have a big page of info and links. I don't like the wiki-stuff, though, myself. I simply never understood how to use it, even with the nice explanations people were giving, it just is beyond me how to edit the thing. But I definitely think that linking ourselves at least peripherally with some of the other adoption type sites would be nice. The Orchard, the Shivuez Clouds, etc - they're already existing communities who do things WAAAAY differently than we do, but still essentially give people art and attention.
