The Nexus meets Wikipedia!

XD I couldn't find anything about the nexus at Wikipedia, so I went and added a small blurb!

Oh! That's the old Nexus Wiki! ...that people apparently stopped using. Sad!

Ugh, either someone very stupid or malicious has been fucking around with it, it seems. v.v Front page, several info pages...down the drain. Rrrr. Hate on vandals.

Ah, I see. Someone was using us to advertise their stupid drugs. XD Fixed the front page to something more bare-bones!

Okay, I'm less creeped out now. ^^; Maybe we should start using it again? It could be a lot more helpful to keep track of candidates, dragons, and links. Funny, I never knew about it. >.>;

It was when we were using the Knux board, before he got angry and booted us out. I'm not sure that that place is going to stick around or not, since it seems to be hosted by his friend, Liam (who seemed nice, but I dunno if he'll just take it down one day, because we never talk to him anymore!)

It /would/ be neat to keep the place updated. ^_^ We should flesh out some of the information about the Nexus itself, alongside just updating dragon pages! X3

Do you guys know if google trawls wikipedia's like this? It could be a good place to throw stuff that's in danger of missing pages--or linking to these if the page is missing, elsewhere!

*EDIT* I will say though, that if you go through the changes you can click 'history' next to the page and look at the old history.

Yeah, I went back a little while ago and found a plethora of porn on the main page. -.- Took it down and left an angry message instead.

I never was too fond of Wiki. Too easy to tamper with information. However, it's another link we can add to the splash page. :D

I think there's a setting somewhere that can make it so only registered users can edit pages, but I don't know how to make it that way. I'll poke around for it... if we find it, it'd probly prevent other porn-massacres of the pages.

I see that some people have been going in to build the site up! :D You guys are awesome... it'd be really neat if this got up and running again!

There needs to be, like, a big cheat-sheet so that people like Shard (who I know said she was having trouble with the wiki-cues) and I (who's pretty well in the same boat!) have an easy reference! :D Would anyone like to help make a simple 'sand-box' type page? I mean... I know that there are a lot of complex commands that one could use... but would it be possible, say, to make two helpful pages? One with the basics that one needs to get by on a wiki, and one with the more complex commands thrown in? That way it won't just end up scaring me (and maybe other people) off because there is /sooo/ much to remember!

Also, *pokes people to start using the 'discussion' pages if they've done stuff* Discussion is good! XD

Wheee, I've been going around and throwing HTML onto the pages to further mess them up. XD

Most notably updating the People page here:

so that they're on tables that are easy to discern. :D

I've also gone and added little 'Active' or 'Inactive' status-markers above the people that are currently listed. >.> There are a couple who I didn't know /what/ was up, so I've marked them as 'Activity Unknown'. Trix and Cyan, I think, are the only ones who got that. The last category, 'On Hiatus', I gave to Delyar and Sunny, though feel free to change, if that's wrong!

I'm also making template pages for the little tables, so that people can use the same format, if they want. :D

I would really rather not have this thing on Knux's pages, actually... I'm very leery of keeping any amount of information (such as locations, ages, etc) on a site which is owned by unfriendlies. I know it's liam, but it's not like he's here on any regular basis either, and has not expressed any interest in staying on in the first place... It could go belly up at any moment. If were're gonna have a wiki, I'd rather it be here... just my opinion.

I've sent him an email asking him to let us know if he ever intends on taking it down.

To be honest, I'd love if we had a wiki in the same place as the nexus... easier to remember the URL, at the very least!

And Liam replied! :D He made JKat and I into moderators, so we can actually block the stupid spammers! Whoo!

He also gave some advice about how to set up a wiki of our own, and assurances that Knux or any other vendetta-mangry person doesn't really have access to Liam's account. X3 He's perfectly happy to keep it running for us, though!

Helephant is a woman called Helen who is definately not Knux- I don't even think they speak to each other anymore. He doesn't have access to my server, don't worry ^^ I'm not even sure he remembers the wiki, so I'll just refrain from mentioning it to him if I can.

For a wiki you need MySQL as well as PHP- if you have both then setting up a wiki is simple, but without a MySQL database you can't really do it. Assuming you have MySQL (you have the board, and I'm assuming it uses MySQL) its not hard to set a wiki up, just a bit time consuming.

I don't know of a way I could transfer all the articles and stuff over except manually copy + pasting... I know its possible, but I don't know if I can do it with my extremely limited knowledge of databases and Wiki software.

How'd I set it up? Downloaded it, changed the necessary files, uploaded it, added a table to my MySQL database, and installed it... :-) Its not hard, as I mentioned.
