I need a new webhost!

Post by Krystaura »

Waaa! Oh well, maybe you folks can help me out here. I'm on painfully limited time when it comes to searching the web for a new webhost so...any suggestions? I need a free account, minimum of 10 megs, 5 would do, but it would be pushing it a little. And, here's the kicker, since I am working off of extremely finicky library computer that can't handle very many pop-ups, so those hosts are out. I'm currently on Freewebs, but the library computers wont let me into the manager and it will take ages until tech support will actually do something about it. So, help?

Thanks!

Geocities has only one fairly unbotrusive ad on the side panel.

You should suggest to the library that they use Firefox as their browsers, and use adblockers to keep those popups to a minimum. If they're running Internet Exploder, they're bound to be getting viruses and ad- and spy-ware constantly.

Anyway, Geocities = 15 megs, one ad, very easy. :) I don't use anything else, the only thing geocities can't do is host forms (there's no cgi bin).

If you want free hosting, I'd still say you have to go with geocities. They still have the occasional popup, but for the most part its just that sidebar thing that's *slightly* less annoying  Also, I don't know of any free hosting site thats COMPLETELY without ads; any that I've seen (crosswinds, mysp, etc) have gone out of business and been bought out by nasty spyware inducing porno sites because without advertising they couldn't afford to stay in business, so I'd be wary of those. So really, while all hosting services will have ads in some form, geocities ads are the least intrusive as far as I can tell.

Thanks. I talked to the library tech guys about the pop-up blocker they have on here now, but they pretty much just ignore me. *shrugs* So, I'll check out geocities, which from what I've seen is lookin to be the best so far. :)

*dashes off*
