Looking to....

Post by DragonFlight »

....purchase a tablet, I think. I want one, and have for a long time, and now I think I can afford to get one for myself!

I know at least one person here has a tablet, so I'm curious, who else does, and what would you all recommend in terms of brand/style/whatever?

I have one (tho it's still very new.. XD) - it's a Wacom Graphire3, I think.. It's good, and it came with some software (photoshop elements, for one). I'm pretty sure the brand is good too, 'cause it's what my school was learning on when I took one of their comp design classes, and they're fairly up to date with equipment in their comp labs.

*shrug* I really dunno what else is out there, actually. I guess as long as it's a good size for you (the ones we used in class were -tiny- so I got a bigger one <3) and seems to be a trustworthy company.. ^.^;;

*hopes that was at least a little helpful*
.

I had a Graphire 2 and it sucked balls. >_< The bloody thing didn't even have pressure sensitivity with the POS photoshop version they sent out with the other software. (Photoshop 5.0 LE, what I'd been using up until this September when I miraculously got a newer, much much much much better version.)

Even if the larger sizes seem tempting, I wouldn't recommend spending so much money for them. Similarly, the 4"x5" tiny ones aren't very good for space... try for the next smallest size up? I'm pretty sure that that's good for storage and use in general.

I think Phe has a tablet, I want to know what she has. X3

I currently have a Wacom Intuos 2, 9x12, and I love it to bitses. All my tablets have been Wacoms, and I, at least, have never had problems with them.

*loves on Phee* Wacom Intuos 2, and I guess 6x8, but I'm not sure XD. =3 It works beautifully, even being two..., no, three years old now and has run on any software or computer I've stuck it to. Sometimes it's a bit funny and I have to replug in the tablet or restart the image software to get the match to screen, but that is no trouble at all and I simply adore me a grey tablet.

...Yeah. I love having it. And the new ones give you the software I work with and multiple pen nibs? O_o I ... want to play with those! XD

So.....this is a good piece of equipment then?

http://www.wacom.com/productinfo/9x12.cfm

Much as I'd be wary of having to pick up this package since I dread the postal service, there's no way I could find this at a local store where I am. It's way too speciality, I think.

Opinions? Smaller one? Different model? What do you think?

Oops, I lied, I have a 6x8. (I didn't have my tablet with me when I first posted, and I just now remembered to measure it.) But yes, Wacoms are love. Just make sure you have enough desktop space (or lap space :P) for the actual tablet dimensions. X3

This is definitely true! I have an Aiptek tablet, which I love, my only complaint being that the batteries in the pen wear out too fast! (But that's mostly because I'm an idiot and forget to unplug it when I'm done with it! XD )

Definitely make sure you have enough table-lap space to comfortably use it. I plug mine into my laptop which means in order to use it and still see what I'm doing I have to set it on top of my keyboard and slide it into my lap and pray the pen doesn't fall everytime I need to type something (and since I can't ever /not/ multitask, this is quite often! XD )

That looks like a really nice tablet though! :)

So I'm noticing 6x8 are good dimensions, yes? Maybe? Should I get the smaller one? Or the bigger one? (Space is not an issue here.)

I do believe 6x8 is a good size. It makes the tablet itself only a couple inches larger than a regular sheet of paper, and you don't have to move your hand quite so far to make the cursor move all around the screen. :)
